LEE COUNTY SECONDARY ROADS HELP WANTED ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER CLASS III/IIIA
Lee County is taking applications for a Road Maintenance Worker III or IIIA to work at the Ambrosia Maintenance Shop or other shops as assigned. Duties will include the operation of light and heavy equipment and trucks to perform road maintenance and construction projects, occasionally plowing snow, and the performance of manual labor as required. This position requires a high school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent and must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements. The successful candidate will be classified as either a Maintenance Worker III or IIIA, depending on qualifications. See additional information below. Operates light road maintenance and construction equipment such as dump trucks, asphalt rollers, broom, distributor, asphalt heater, wheel tractors with attachments, front end loader in construction and maintenance projects; performs related work as required; performs manual labor; and prepares necessary reports for payroll and cost accounting for project costs and equipment costs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Independently or as part of a crew: Operates all county equipment in routine maintenance and construction activities of Lee County as set forth below with the appropriate licenses/endorsements: Operates trucks hauling rock, sand, dirt and other materials used in road maintenance. Operates trucks to spread material on ice and push snow with truck-mounted plows. Assists in mounting and removing attachments to equipment such as a snowplow, wings, sanders and other attachments. Operates light equipment such as wheel tractors, wheel loaders, rollers, asphalt heater. Performs manual labor on equipment to repair, maintain and keep clean. Performs manual labor as required to maintain drainage, road surface repair and all road related items requiring manual labor. Performs labor to repair, set up and take down barricades. Assists in maintaining and repairing all county road bridges. Performs routine maintenance on machinery and equipment being utilized. Performs PMI duties daily including, oil changes, lubrications, fluids checks, cleaning equipment per equipment specifications and direction given by Road Maintenance Foremen. Performs light mechanical and electrical repairs at maintenance sheds and on the road. Keeps records on the sign system within the County. Completes records of time worked and materials used on an assignment. Uses computers, tablets, and other electronic devices to enter and maintain records using relevant software and online applications. Keeps sign inventory stock records current. Maintains on call readiness and must report to work per the County's snow ordinance and other emergency situations. Unless vacation of time-off is requested in advance, must be prepared to be called-in to work at any time, 24 hours per day. One to three years work experience operating light and heavy equipment, tools and material used in construction and maintenance of county roads. Performing heavy manual labor, and operating a variety of hand and power tools and equipment; high school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of the operating characteristics of dump trucks and safety precautions required. Knowledge of the safe operation of hand and power tools used in road maintenance activities. Skill in the safe operation of dump trucks and other heavy equipment, or the ability to learn and become proficient in the operation of dump trucks and other equipment used in road maintenance work. Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with air-brake, tractor-trailer, within sixty (60) days of the date of hire and insurable under Lee County's vehicle insurance program. Must have Class A CDL with Air Brake Endorsement Driver's License or obtain and maintain one within sixty (60) days of date of hire in this classification. Must have tanker endorsement for Class A CDL Driver's License or obtain one and maintain one within sixty (60) days of date of hire in this classification. Must be insurable under Lee County's vehicle insurance program. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with contractors, fellow employees and diverse members of the public. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions, including technical manuals and plans. Ability to perform the physical demands of the job including working outside in a variety of weather conditions and walking safely on rough terrain, with or without reasonable accommodation.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily outdoors for extended periods of time under a wide variety of weather conditions. Work requires sitting, crawling, bending, walking or climbing on uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods of time, working near moving vehicles, and lifting and moving equipment and materials. Frequently lifts objects and materials up to 75 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds. Work exposes the employee to hot, humid, rainy, wind, cold, snow and icy conditions, and sunshine for extended periods of time, and high noise levels. Protective equipment such as high visibility apparel, hard-hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes are worn.Job Type:
