Road Specialist

Village of Manchester Road Specialist Purpose:

The Village Road Specialist works with the Road Foreman in various functions in the Village Highways and Roads Department.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Service, maintain, and repair departmental equipment (except for major or warranty work). 2. Survey roads daily for regular roads maintenance. 3. Cut brush and trees along roadsides. 4. Clean drainage ditches. 5. Rebuild and clean storm drains on an as-needed basis. 6. Repair and replace guard posts and rails on an as-needed basis. 7. Mow, rake, reseed islands, intersections, and the Village Green, as needed. 8. Empty trash bins at municipal Village facilities. 9. Clean up and sweep roads during warmer seasons, regularly. 10. Paint and maintain Village flower boxes, flagpoles, streetlamps, offices, equipment, etc. 11. Install and replace road signs, as needed. 12. Drive and load trucks, backhoe, lawnmowers, and other machinery. 13. Lifting as necessary to perform above-described tasks. 14. Perform Winter maintenance, including: a. Plowing, sanding, salting, moving snow, and wingback roads throughout Village. b. Grade, plow, and sand private parking lots, driveways, and school lots on an as-needed basis.

Abilities and Qualifications:

• Must have prior experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
• Must have prior experience with Winter roads maintenance, including plowing and salting/sanding roads.
• Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. regularly over extended periods of time.
• Must reside within reasonable commuting distance (40 minutes) of Manchester Village.
• Must be able to work as part of a team to accomplish tasks in a timely and efficient manner as required by the Road Foreman.
• Prior experience with municipal roads maintenance preferred.

Working Conditions:

This position is subject to the terms of the Village of Manchester Personnel Policy. It is expected that primary duties will be performed under the supervision and direction of the Road Foreman. It is expected that the Road Specialist will be present during regular working hours. An average of thirty to forty (30-40) hours per week is expected, with fluctuations allowed during certain times of the year or if additional responsibilities are assigned by Road Foreman. Working conditions include physical and manual labor, including standing, walking, lifting, and performing maintenance work in the field for extended periods of time.
