The Rock Climbing Instructor will provide a safe, welcoming and fun environment for children to learn & grow. Instruct youth recreational climbing classes. Provide participants with pertinent information, efficient service and instruct all classes within the guidelines of the Association to maintain the quality of the programs. Demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA of Greater Hartford core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspect of job performance.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Plan and implement specialized programming which may include artificial rock climbing, bouldering, belaying, and teambuilding facilitation. 2. Set-up and break-down of program materials and equipment. 3. Pre/Post inspection of rock climbing areas, equipment and surrounding areas. 4. Proactively report equipment and supply needs to management. 5. Instruct, train, and coach individuals and groups to ensure physical, mental, and emotional safety. 6. Communicate instructions and information in a developmentally appropriate manner to program participants of various ages and abilities. 7. Timely and organized recordkeeping and reporting. 8. Responsible for responding to all inherit potential safety scenarios in a climbing setting, including participant rescues and emergency response. 9. Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire. Previous training or experience with rock climbing and rock-climbing equipment Previous successful experience engaging children and teens in group activities.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergencySimilar remote jobs
