Role Summary Abbott & Oaks is seeking a Bench Jeweler with a strong emphasis on stone setting and restorative bench work to support the preparation and preservation of our vintage and antique pieces. This role is well-suited for an experienced bench jeweler, though recent graduates of accredited jewelry and metals programs are encouraged to apply. Working with vintage and antique jewelry requires patience, precision, and restraint. You will focus heavily on stone setting, tightening, and stabilization, along with thoughtful restoration and repair. You will work directly under a Master Bench Jeweler with over 30 years of experience , receiving ongoing mentorship and hands-on training in advanced antique and fine-jewelry techniques. Why Join Us? Responsibilities Stone Setting (Primary Focus): Execute precise stone setting, tightening, stabilization, and replacement, with particular care given to older settings and delicate stones.
Restoration & Repair:
Perform expert repairs on vintage and antique jewelry while preserving original character, construction, and integrity.
Sizing & Structural Adjustments:
Resize rings and adjust pieces thoughtfully, maintaining balance, strength, and historical accuracy.
Soldering & Fabrication:
Rebuild prongs, reinforce settings, and complete fine soldering and light fabrication as needed.
Polishing & Finishing:
Finish pieces to a high standard without over-polishing or compromising antique details.
Condition Assessment:
Evaluate jewelry for structural issues and collaborate on the most appropriate restoration approach.
Bench & Tool Care:
Maintain tools, workspace, and safe handling practices consistent with fine-jewelry standards.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the cataloging and operations teams to ensure pieces are properly assessed, prepared, and ready for sale.
Skills & Qualifications Bench Experience:
Prior bench experience working with fine jewelry is preferred; recent graduates of accredited jewelry and metals programs are encouraged to apply.
Setting Fundamentals:
Strong foundation in stone setting, prong work, and stabilization techniques.
Technical Proficiency:
Confidence in soldering, resizing, and repair techniques. Attention to

A meticulous, perfectionist approach to craftsmanship and finishing. Respect for
Materials:
Understanding of how to work delicately with older metals, stones, and construction methods.
