178 Paraprofessionals must meet one of the following qualifications: Have 2 years of college credits, or Have a college degree, or Pass the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher, or the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher. Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative dates are offered throughout the year for West Ada Paraprofessionals. If you do not meet the college credit/degree requirement or have not yet passed the Praxis, you will be signed up for the Idaho Paraprofessional Assessment upon hire. The test must be passed within 90 days of your start date. Please upload your transcript and/or Praxis scores. Purpose Provides disciplinary supervision to elementary school students; performs related work as required. Performance Responsibilities The primary function of an employee in this class is to assist teachers and administrators by providing disciplinary supervision and supervising a disciplinary program for designated elementary school students. The position may also provide tutoring and supplemental instruction for students. The position is supervised by the building Principal or a Vice-Principal. The primary duties of the position are performed in a classroom and playground environment, including exposure to inclement weather conditions and the physical hazards of disruptive and aggressive students. Essential Duties Monitors designated students requiring disciplinary supervision; Supervises an in-school disciplinary classroom, study hall, or other designated detention facility; Assists teachers, administrators, parents, and students in preparing and implementing a disciplinary or behavior modification plan; Assists teachers in removing disruptive students from a classroom, cafeteria, playground, or other building area, as required; Prepares and maintains documents, reports, records, files, and related documentation of student activities, violations, progress, and behaviors; Initiates and maintains contact with parents on student activities, incidents, behaviors, and violations and subsequent school actions; May assist students with classroom and homework assignments, tutoring, or other supplemental instruction; Assists students with behavior modification, conflict management and resolution, making correct choices, recognizing consequences, and other related social skills; Assists teachers with reports and documentation; Performs playground, noon, hallway, and other monitoring and safety duties, as assigned; Maintains student and District confidentiality; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices. Other Duties and Responsibilities May supervise a classroom in the absence of a teacher; May perform front office duties; May dispense medications and first aid services in the absence of the school nurse; Performs other related duties as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
School and District rules, codes, standards, and expected student behaviors; School and District policies on discipline, behavior modification, and punishment, including suspension; Disciplinary and behavior modification methods, techniques, and objectives; Conflict resolution and mediation techniques, methods, and objectives; Basic educational procedures and objectives, including classroom instruction and presentation, preparation of teaching materials and aids, classroom management, testing and grading, tutoring, and student-teacher relations and interactions; Operation of classroom instructional equipment; Operation of standard office equipment, including a personal computer. Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures; Monitor and handle or remove students presenting disruptive, aggressive, or other disciplinary or safety problems; Investigate and resolve student conflicts; Prepare, implement, and document behavior modification plans and programs; Monitor and supervise students in detention, study hall, or related separation facilities; Prepare, maintain, and present required student and program reports, records, and documentation; Maintain student and District confidentiality; Operate classroom instructional equipment, standard office equipment, and a personal computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, parents, and other District personnel; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent required; and Classroom or other instructional experience is preferred; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively in person, and to hear sounds within the normal range of conversation; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and comprehend, review, and prepare a variety of written and text documents and materials; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate classroom instruction equipment and office equipment, including a personal computer; Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to stand or sit for long periods of time, and work in a playground and classroom environment and be able to lift 20 pounds.
