Come Join an Inclusive Team As a Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting and advancing site health, safety, security, and emergency response programs. In this position, you will partner with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while protecting people, assets, and the environment. You will help lead and maintain emergency preparedness initiatives, oversee security processes, and contribute to incident response and investigations. This role requires strong collaboration, technical understanding of plant operations, and the ability to proactively identify and mitigate risks.

A Day in the Life
  • Support Health & Safety Programs such as but not limited to Life Critical Procedures, Emergency Response, Facility Security, Operational Excellence, and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Serve as a safety resource for Management, Operations, and Maintenance functions.
  • This position will be focused on security and Emergency Response/Loss Prevention regulatory compliance and must understand safety regulations and plant operations.
  • Own, support and provide direction to the site's Security and/or Emergency Response/Loss Prevention programs.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the units and processes to which the regulations and requirements must be applied.
  • Performing job-related duties to include protecting company assets and responding to security and other related plant emergencies which may include fires, spills, gas release, rescue, and medical emergencies.
  • Supports the development of drill scenarios and participates in Drill/Exercise activities within the facility to ensure support and resources are adequate and well utilized.
  • Provide direct coordination to the facility in preparation for Hurricane plans, inclement weather plans, facility response plans, rescue pre-plans as necessary to ensure adequate resources and plans for coverage to protect company assets.
  • Participate in HSES sponsored reviews and assessments as necessary to ensure all emergency preparedness activities in the facility are in compliance with Corporate and Site programs. May be assigned other Safety & Health duties as needed.
  • Enforcement of security processes and procedures to include facility entry requirements.
  • Security and Emergency Response personnel performance during routine and emergency operations.
  • Act as a liaison with 3rd party contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with Health & Safety practices/procedures.
  • Lead or participate in informal and formal incident investigations.
  • Performing duties as per Facility Security Plan (FSP).
  • Advanced use of computers to prepare and complete reports, perform data entry, and operate access control and security systems.
  • Regulatory compliance with internal and agency audits and inspections.
You Bring This Value Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a refining or petrochemical manufacturing environment in operations, maintenance, or HSE.
  • Technical writing and spreadsheet skills preferred (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Strong leadership skills and able to be self-motivated
  • Ability to build partnerships and collaborate with other LYB sites and departments such as Technical, Operations, Maintenance, & Reliability
  • Computer skills & ability to adapt to technology Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree (or higher) in related discipline
  • Emergency Response Management and/or Law Enforcement experience
  • Strong and meticulous organizational skills with documenting and recordkeeping.
  • Be able to foresee problems, identify proactive measures that can be taken and have the capability to plan the work and execute the work.
  • Demonstrated experience representing a company to an auditor (internal or external) or a regulatory agency.
  • Able to communicate across multiple levels within the site and in different group settings.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with potentially competing priorities.
