Ace Hardware Rentals & Small Engine Repair Department Manager We are a small-town construction company and lumberyard with a full-service Ace Hardware store and rental department. As an employee-owned company, every team member plays an important role in our success and takes pride in providing exceptional service to our customers and community. The Ace Hardware Rentals & Small Engine Repair Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the rental department, managing the rental process for construction tools and equipment, and ensuring all machinery is clean, safe, reliable, and ready for customer use. This position combines customer service, equipment logistics, inventory control, and hands-on mechanical maintenance, including diagnosing and repairing small engines found in generators, compactors, saws, pumps, and other power equipment. Customer Service & Rental Coordination Assist customers in selecting the appropriate rental equipment for construction, landscaping, and home improvement projects. Process rental agreements and explain proper equipment operation and safety procedures. Schedule equipment deliveries and returns while coordinating with drivers and logistics personnel. Build strong customer relationships by providing knowledgeable, friendly, and professional service. Equipment Inspection & Maintenance Perform pre-rental and post-rental inspections to identify damage, wear, or maintenance needs. Ensure all rental equipment is cleaned, serviced, and ready for use. Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on small-engine equipment, including: Concrete saws Generators Plate compactors Pumps Chainsaws Lawn and garden equipment Small Engine Diagnostics & Repair Diagnose mechanical and operational issues on small-engine equipment. Perform repairs, tune-ups, and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and lifespan. Maintain accurate service records and communicate repair needs effectively. Inventory & Shop Management Track rental equipment, tools, parts inventory, and maintenance schedules. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient rental yard and repair shop. Ensure equipment is properly stored, secured, and prepared for the next rental. Assist with merchandising and coordination between the rental department, hardware store, and lumberyard as needed. Safety & Compliance Follow and enforce safety procedures related to equipment operation, repairs, fuel handling, and customer instruction. Ensure all rental equipment meets operational and safety standards before being rented. Promote a safe working environment for employees and customers.
