Job Overview We are looking for an engaging, empathetic self-starter who excels in building client relationships, loves negotiating, thrives on managing a high-volume portfolio, and wants to maximize their earning potential. In addition to a base salary, the advertising sales representatives are paid 11% commission on the advertising revenue they generate from sales.

Of note:

The sales representative acquires the accounts established by their predecessor. These accounts include advertisements in the Rossmoor News, special sections, websites, buses and other publications in Rossmoor. Commission earnings potential in the past five years has ranged from an average of $3,000 to $4,000 a month (per sales representative). The sales representative maintains the established account base and develops new accounts; assists graphic artists with ad designs; dummies ads for the printed newspaper, draws up contracts and collects payments; and provides backup customer assistance at the front desk.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains account base by meeting with clients, identifying their needs, describing available advertising products, providing cost estimates and facilitating the design-to-proof output of their ads to help them to promote their products or services in the most effective way possible; Develops new accounts by making cold calls to customers, helping customers who come into the office or making appointments with clients at their place of business or in the office; Processes all correspondence and maintains accounts, including creating all insertion orders, collecting payments, securing sign-offs of proofs and in conjunction with editorial and production, handling ad layouts; Draws up contracts with customers and monitors the contract to ensure that it is fulfilled; Works with residents on the sale, composition and design of obituary ads; Dummies ad and proofs pages as part of the weekly production of the newspaper; Researches advertising trends, products, services and rates to ensure we are delivering on our clients' needs while also maintaining our advertising revenue base; Assists in the marketing efforts from preparation of media and ad rate kits; promotional material for special sections; and additional promotional plans; Works closely with the graphic artist to ensure that the customer is getting the correct size ad, the layout and design that is requested; Collects past due payments by customers.

Requirements:

Demonstrated excellence in customer service, time and priority management, teamwork and collaboration Exceptional verbal and written communication, including spelling and grammar, with the ability to persuade and negotiate effectively Technical proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, MS Office Suite and Google Workspace Strong understanding of and adaptability to industry trends, online campaigns, social media and digital tracking Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Experience in media or digital ad sales and design preferred Minimum 3 years previous experience in customer service-related position Some college level education; a bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related degree is preferred.
