Marketing & Events Programming Coordinator Hawkeye Downs Speedway & Expo Center Cedar Rapids, IA Job Details Part-time $14 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Teamwork English Attention to detail Full Job Description Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center is hiring a Marketing and Events Programming Coordinator to support Hawkeye Downs' 101st year of racing in 2026! Each year, Hawkeye Downs hosts dozens of trade shows, conventions, and gatherings in its exposition halls and on its racing grounds. Hawkeye Downs is also home to one of two asphalt racetracks in the state of Iowa. Every May through August, you can hear the roar of race engines almost every weekend. This proven leader will be a self-starter interested in event planning and marketing. The coordinator will work closely with the Race Director, Executive Director, and Board Members at Hawkeye Downs to develop and execute an engaging racing program through August 2026. Candidates should maintain excellent attendance, be observant, and have the ability to be creative and communicate effectively with event supporters. Duties Host all special guests during scheduled event programs on race nights (i.e. suite sponsors, pace car drivers, party deck guests, etc.) Capture photos and video of special guests in attendance and special events on the track Work with Hawkeye Downs marketing representatives to produce content needed for social media platforms and the website Assist with planning, marketing, and execution of Veteran of the Night program as needed Assist with the 50/50 raffle program as needed Assist with the message board as needed Assist with Guest Services setup as needed Manage the "Movin' On Up" weekly suites giveaway on social media Manage the t-shirt gun program Prepare any scripting necessary for the emcees Coordinate a national anthem performance for each race Coordinate special events at the track, including, but not limited to: Opening Night activities (candy dash at intermission, selfie station on the concourse, live music, giveaway items) Backpack Night activities (collect and prepare school supply donations, backpacks, etc.) Bike Night activities (collect and prepare bicycle donations, helmets, local first responder organization representatives) Candy Dash Night activities (obtain sponsor, collect candy donations, promote the event at the track, set up/execute the event at intermission) Nickel Scramble Night activities (obtain sponsor, set up scramble on the track, capture photos) Super Hero Night activities (promote the event at the track, assist with volunteers, capture photos) Season Championship Night activities (giveaways, selfie station on the concourse, host track party for racers and fans after the races) General race night pre-race and post-race preparations as needed Office duties for weekly racing preparations as needed Experience & Expectations Experience or interest in event planning and basic social media marketing functions Flexible schedule to accommodate event operations scheduled at various times on nights and weekends Positive attitude and high energy Reliable, honest, and trustworthy Ability to be self-directed while working in a team-oriented environment Creative spirit! Able to share ideas and execute them with the support of the Race Director, Hawkeye Downs staff, and volunteers Attend events in their entirety Practice kindness and respect with all staff, volunteers, and event attendees. Detail-oriented work ethic. Before anything is published, run it past the Race Director, Executive Director, and/or Board Member for proofing. Ability to read and write in the English language to effectively communicate expectations to event attendees, sponsors, or volunteers This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to kick-start their careers in sports marketing and/or event management, or for individuals with an interest in event planning who are looking for extra income on nights and weekends in the summer months! Hours Expectations This part-time position requires a regular commitment of up to 20 hours per week. This will consist of one or two in-office days to prepare for race day, then a set schedule for race day specifically. Friday nights (3pm-11pm) will be required regularly to align with the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O'Reilly Auto Parts schedule at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Physical Demands The Marketing & Events Programming coordinator is regularly required to lift, stand, walk, bend over, sit, and use their hands. The position also occasionally requires the individual to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Work Environment Both indoor and outdoor work will be required, sometimes in heat and unfavorable weather conditions. Consistently works in small workspaces and/or moves about in crowds of people.
