Assistant Director of Special Events Reports to:
Associate Director of Special Events Campus:
Patchogue, Long Island and/or Brooklyn, NY The assistant director of special events assists in coordinating and executing the University's institutional and advancement events for both campuses, including fundraising, alumni, University and cultivation events. This position is responsible for assisting with all elements of event management including working with committee members, soliciting sponsorships, and building corporate relationships. Signature events include a Golf Classic and Black Tie Gala. Additional events throughout the year support University fundraising and alumni and community engagement. The selected candidate will have a bachelor's degree and 1+ years of experience planning and implementing special events or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hospitality experience and strong customer service skills are preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required. The ability to work as a part of a collaborative team is essential. Position Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for assisting and/or managing and executing special events with the goal of maximizing fundraising, constituency building, corporate partnerships, branding, and event day experience. Assist with the planning of other events as needed including alumni, cultivation, college-wide, and fundraising events. The assistant director will support a high volume of innovative events, receptions, and seminars for audiences that range from C-suite and senior executives to students, faculty, and alumni. Assist with a comprehensive timeline and communication plans for all events in which the associate director of special events is the lead. Solicit and secure sponsorships and ticket sales for fundraising events. Execute all event logistics, registration, and follow-up. Assist with event committees; Interact with event chairs and committee members to secure sponsorships, gifts, ads, etc. Work with and report to the associate director of special events. Supports college scholarship recipients' stewardship program and selection of high profile scholarships. All duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree required 1+ years of work experience in corporate relationship building, and events organization or a similar combination of experience and education. Valid and current driver's license Strong verbal, writing and communication skills Attention to detail A passionate, energetic team-oriented individual Creative skills to think beyond traditional approaches Availability on occasional evenings and weekends Strong work and team work ethic. This position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently.
