Job Summary:
The Director of Sales is a senior, hands-on commercial leader responsible for driving revenue growth through direct selling, account expansion, and disciplined execution of NOVA's sales strategy. This role carries an individual revenue quota and is accountable for building and maintaining a healthy, qualified pipeline aligned with company growth objectives. In addition to individual revenue ownership, this role is responsible for leading, coaching, and holding accountable the sales function, including existing and future sales team members. The Director of Sales works closely with Executive Leadership, Regulatory Compliance, Operations, and Quality to ensure all commercial activity is accurate, compliant, and operationally feasible. This role is execution-focused and ideal for a sales leader who thrives in a regulated, relationship-driven environment and is comfortable being directly involved in customer engagement and deal progression.
Essential Duties:
General Sales Execution & Revenue Ownership:
Own and achieve assigned annual revenue targets through direct sales and account expansion. Actively manage and progress sales opportunities from initial engagement through contract execution. Maintain a strong, qualified pipeline that supports accurate forecasting and predictable revenue.
Collaboration:
Work closely with Regulatory Compliance to ensure all sales activity, customer communications, and representations align with applicable FDA, CDPH, and industry regulations. Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to align customer commitments with capacity, timelines, and delivery capabilities. Collaborate with Executive Leadership on pricing strategies, contract terms, customer prioritization, and sales performance expectations across the team.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and timely CRM records, including pipeline status, forecasts, and customer activity. Provide regular sales reports and forecasts to the CEO, highlighting risks, trends, and opportunities. Ensure contracts, proposals, and customer documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant.
Problem-Solving & Client Support:
Serve as a senior point of contact for key and strategic customers. Address client concerns proactively and resolve issues in coordination with internal teams. Support customer retention by maintaining strong, consultative relationships.
Continuous Improvement:
Contribute to the development and refinement of sales processes, tools, and workflows. Identify opportunities to improve sales effectiveness, pipeline quality, and customer experience. Support future sales team scaling by defining, documenting, and enforcing repeatable sales practices, standards, and expectations.
Sales Team Leadership & Accountability:
Lead, coach, and support members of the sales team to ensure consistent execution, accountability, and performance against revenue goals. Set clear expectations for sales activity, pipeline management, and forecasting discipline. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new sales team members as the organization scales. Provide ongoing performance feedback and partner with Executive Leadership on performance management and development decisions.

Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build long-term client relationships. Proven consultative selling and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently with high accountability and ownership. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and forecasting. Technical proficiency with CRM systems and standard business tools; ability to learn new systems quickly. Comfort operating in a regulated environment with high expectations for accuracy and compliance. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and influence sales professionals while remaining personally accountable for results.
Education and Experience Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Degree in life sciences, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred but not required.
Experience:
8-12 years of progressive sales experience in biologics, life sciences, biotech, or other highly regulated industries. Demonstrated success carrying an individual revenue quota and managing complex, long-cycle sales. Experience working cross-functionally with regulatory, quality, and operations teams strongly preferred.
Certifications:
Sales or industry-related certifications are a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods while working on a computer. Ability to travel for client meetings, conferences, or industry events as needed. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds on occasion.
