Job Description

Director, Business Development Director, Business DevelopmentOsiris Therapeutics, Inc. is a leading stem cell therapeutics company focused on developing and marketing products to treat medical conditions in inflammatory, orthopedic, cardiovascular and other areas. We are a fully integrated company having developed stem cell capabilities in research and development, clinical development, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution.

We are currently recruiting for a Director of Business Development. This position will report to the CEO and be located at our new Columbia, Maryland facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with CEO and other senior management to define the corporate strategy and articulate, execute and plan all Business Development activities, to include: financial modeling; corporate partnerships; divestitures; acquisitions; asset management; and contract management.

Serve as key team member in negotiation and execution of a wide range of business agreements (licensing, collaborations, corporate partnerships).Participate in or perform all stages of the process leading to deal closure, including issue identification, risk allocation, structure determination, valuation, negotiation and document preparation.

Perform business and strategic analyses (e.g., market surveys, valuation, cost analysis) relating to Osiris Therapeutics product opportunities.

Monitor competitive product pipelines, priorities and strategies as they affect business development and licensing opportunities.

Participate in evaluation of company or product acquisition and product licensing opportunities to complement Osiris's programs and technologies.

Function as business advisor to scientific and product development teams. In conjunction with other senior staff, help plan and guide various research and development projects by performing commercial analyses and determine the financial viability, commercial fit, and commercial likelihood of success of particular projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in life sciences or business, and 5 or more years relevant experience with proven expertise and results in biopharmaceutical business development. A law degree with emphasis in deal law or intellectual property is strongly preferred.
  • Proven and substantial accomplishments in negotiation and execution of strategic licenses and alliances in a rigorous and result-oriented environment.
  • Strong inter-personal skills; must thrive in a team-oriented entrepreneurial environment, as well as be able to initiate and manage projects independently as needed.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Ability to rapidly understand new technologies and to formulate, in business terms, the rationale for recommendations to management, scientific staff and to potential partners/collaborators.
  • Creativity coupled with solid organizational, analytical and problem solving skills. Skills and experience to correctly evaluate company fit and commercial opportunity of potential licensing, marketing and corporate alliance opportunities.
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills.
The candidate must also be willing and able to contribute as needed on a wide range of projects and functions, with an ability to multi-task and a "can do" attitude.

Must be able to interact productively with a broad range of scientists, physicians, legal and business professionals both within Osiris and externally.
