Job Description

Who We Are The Homestead is a destination resort located on the shore of Lake Michigan inside the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the place chosen by the viewers of Good Morning America as the "Most Beautiful Place in America." Our goals for guest service are highly elevated, proactive and personalized as we warmly welcome every guest and provide heartfelt support at every interaction. We accomplish our goals with a culture which is people focused, data driven, and results oriented. Job Summary The Sales Manager has two primary responsibilities. One is for selling and helping others sell rooms, suites, rental homes, meeting rooms, and group food and beverage services to meet individual and team goals for occupancy, revenue and profitability. The other is to work closely with the revenue and marketing managers to develop short and long-term strategies for market mix, rate/date pricing, promotions, and advertising that will extend the summer season and maximize profitability. Overall, the Sales Manager should spend 85% of his or her time selling and 15% managing. Responsibilities In addition to the responsibilities set forth above:
  • Hire, train, and manage new and existing members of the sales team so they have a solid understanding of features and benefits for each part of our property and work as a team.
  • Solicit and help other team members solicit new and repeat business with traditional and digital techniques targeted at previous and prospective guests including property owners.
  • Prepare monthly and annual sales plans by market for team members selling to groups.
  • Set and monitor call quotas for team members selling to social and group guests.
  • Monitor social and group sales performances, compare to quotas, and approve earned incentives.
  • Spend substantial amounts of time in attractive markets calling on existing and prospective group guests including property owners.
  • Complete weekly reports showing calls made by phone and in person, calls completed, contracts sent, and contracts signed.
  • Participate in industry related sales events and follow up quickly and regularly with contacts made at such events.
  • Complete required sales reports accurately and timely.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly and annual social and group sales quotas and the monthly and annual budgets for each upcoming year. The list of responsibilities is not comprehensive and may change when markets or business conditions change. Requirements
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in sales management, hospitality or a related field of study is preferred but not required.
  • Prior sales or sales management experience preferably in a resort or hotel in northern Michigan.
  • An unwavering belief in honesty.
Compensation Salary commensurate with education, skills, and experience with exceptionally attractive incentives and benefits including paid vacation, health insurance, life insurance, access to a 401k retirement account and employee discounts. Base hiring range $65,000-$70,000. Expected incentives are at least 25% of base.
