Job Overview The Director of Sales & Use Tax leads the strategic oversight and administration of all sales and use tax operations across Macy's and Bloomingdale's locations. The role ensures compliance with multi-state requirements, mitigates tax-related risk, and supports financial accuracy through effective management of audits, data stewardship, and tax contingency analysis. This position strengthens Macy's financial posture by providing expert guidance, developing tax staff, and driving continuous improvement in tax processes. What You Will Do Lead the end-to-end administration of sales and use tax audits, including scheduling, data gathering, audit hosting, conflict resolution, appeals, and litigation support.
Oversee the management and accuracy of the Miscellaneous Tax Contingency and recommend reserve adjustments based on risk analysis.
Ensure secure collection, preparation, retention, and presentation of sensitive tax data for review by governmental authorities.
Interpret and apply multi-state sales and use tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance and reduce risk exposure.
Direct and develop the sales and use tax team, supporting professional growth, cross-functional initiatives, and departmental capability building.
Foster strong relationships with governmental officials, internal legal teams, finance partners, and operational stakeholders to support tax strategy and audit outcomes.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance tax administration efficiency and strengthen compliance controls.
Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
