Summary:
The Business Development Manager plays a key role in advancing Utah's economic growth by leading business recruitment, expansion, and retention projects. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of prospective and active projects, cultivating relationships with corporate decision-makers and site selectors, and positioning Utah as a premier location for business investment. This position will also have responsibility for supporting industry activities in one of Utah's defined Target Industries. Key Responsibilities:
Business Recruitment & Project Management. Lead and manage business recruitment projects from initial inquiry through location decision, including facilitating engagement with our research team, coordinating responses to RFI's with speed and accuracy, arranging and executing site visits, making introductions to key partners, navigating the incentives process, and delivering targeted content to keep clients engaged. Develop and present compelling business cases highlighting Utah's advantages. Conduct corporate recruitment trips to generate new leads and opportunities. Client & Relationship Management. Build and maintain strong relationships with site selectors, corporate executives, industry partners, and EDCUtah investors. Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and conferences. Strategic Collaboration. Partner with state and local governments, utilities, higher education institutions, industry, and private-sector stakeholders. Collaborate internally with research, marketing, and leadership teams to align strategy and messaging. Support community partners in preparing sites, incentives, and value propositions. Market Intelligence & Strategy . Track and analyze industry trends, competitive locations, and site selection drivers. Identify target industries and companies aligned with Utah's economic priorities. Contribute to strategic planning and business development initiatives. Reporting & CRM Management . Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records in CRM system. Provide regular updates on project activity, pipeline status, and outcomes. Target Industry Development. Engage on a state and national level to meet with major employers, key stakeholders and site selectors directly related to a targeted industry. Identify opportunities for adding to your industry knowledge base and network. Work with EDCUtah's Marketing & Events team to ensure Utah is represented appropriately at key industry events. Other Key Responsibilities. Support internal best practice process development. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, public administration, or related field 2-5 year's work experience in economic development, business development, project or account management, commercial real estate, or adjacent field Strong project management and organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Preferred:
Experience working for an economic development organization, and with site selectors and corporate location strategy teams Knowledge of Utah's economic landscape and key industries Previous experience in one of Utah's identified target industries Experience using CRM platform (Salesforce) Advanced degree (MBA, MPA/MPP, Urban Planning, MRED)

Physical Requirements:
This position will occasionally have requirements related to the setup and takedown of tradeshow booth infrastructure. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to kneel, bend, crawl and stretch regularly. Must be able to climb and work on a ladder.
Driving Requirements:
Please be aware that the ability to legally drive within the United States of America may be an essential function for employment at EDCUtah. •Extended hours means weekday pre-8:00 AM, post-5:00 PM and weekend responsibilities are required with this position.
