Job Description

Job Requirements I. General Summary Receives cash from customers as payment for goods or services. Displays prompt and courteous service to customers and is able to communicate effectively with them. II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. 1. Maintains friendly, efficient, Spirit of Service attitude towards customers, and co-workers. Is responsive toward customers during sales transactions. 2. Follows daily routine for cash register set-up involving duties such as: Efficient layout of cash drawer, confirm adequate supply of register tapes, point of sale merchandise, general housekeeping of register stand, register and scale. 3. Reconciles cash drawer at the end of the shift or as required. Ensures cash drawer is balanced and that all sales are properly recorded. 4. Records all appropriate meal information for volunteers, students, employees and physicians. Submits all information to the designated person at the end of each shift. 5. Operates cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, compile printed list and display cost of customer purchase, tax and rebates on monitor screen. 6. Assists in care and maintenance of cafeteria work areas, equipment and supplies as directed. 7. Issues cash refunds or credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise. 8. Participates in cafeteria promotional activities as required. 9. Adheres to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment. Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal regulations. 10. Maintains compliance with UMMC's standards of operation, client and within Business Conduct Guidelines. Maintains all records and reports necessary to regulations and codes. III. Education and Experience 1. Prior cash handling and cash register experience is desired. IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively. 2. Ability to apply elementary math functions. 3. Ability to work well under time constraints. Work Experience Customer service skills.
