Job Description

About us: Uhuru Foods & Pies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Black Star Industries that is an economic self-reliance program of the Uhuru Movement with the mission to reclaim land, food production and food distribution into the hands of African people worldwide.
Definition:
Under the supervision of the Uhuru Bakery Manager, the Front of House (FOH) Associate is the first point of contact for customers and plays a key role in creating a welcoming and positive experience. This position is responsible for customer service, representing the values of Uhuru Bakery & Cafe, handling transactions, packaging pastries, resolving customer issues and ensuring the front area remains organized and inviting.
Essential Functions:
Customer Service Greet customers warmly and professionally. Answer questions about menu items and provide recommendations. Deliver friendly, efficient service in a fast-paced environment. Resolve basic customer concerns with professionalism. Actively engages with the public, getting to know customers by name, knowing their likes. Signs people up for getting information on Black Power Blueprint, Uhuru Bakery and events, and signing up to volunteer. Sales & Transactions Take accurate customer orders in person. Operate the POS (Point of Sale) system efficiently and accurately. Handle cash and card transactions with strong basic math skills. Upsell pastries, beverages, and featured items to increase sales. Product Handling & Presentation Safely remove pastries from display cases and package them properly and serve drinks Maintain clean, stocked, and visually appealing display areas. Monitor inventory levels in the front case and communicate restocking needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Passionate about cooking and working in a cooperative kitchen environment Leads and contributes to positive, safe and effective work environment of all volunteers Delegates responsibilities clearly and in an organized manner Works collaboratively, team player Has the ability to lead and motivate others Able to prioritize tasks and manage time well under pressure Qualifications ServSafe Food Handlers Certification (required). Previous customer service or retail experience preferred. Basic math skills and cash-handling experience. Familiarity with POS systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and stay organized during busy periods. Friendly, professional, and team-oriented attitude.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment. Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
