Marine Mammal Stranding Outreach Whale and Dolphin Conservation Marine Mammal Stranding Outreach Plymouth, MA Apply Marine Mammal Stranding Outeach Specialist What You\'ll Do:
Essential Responsibilities:
Complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of service, serving August 17, 2026 through June 19, 2027. Attend a minimum of 6 Commonwealth Corps trainings and events held by MSA, generally 1-2 times per month. Participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of MSA-related activities each week. This includes filling out timesheets, completing a bi-monthly reflection or check-in, or other MSA-related tasks or activities. Expand marine mammal stranding specific outreach efforts in Quincy, Boston, Winthrop, and Revere by building relationships with community partners, scheduling an average of 3 outreach events per month, and optimizing current outreach programming for the newly expanded response territory Design and implement new interactive outreach activities designed to grab public attention Coordinate new and existing volunteers through management of volunteer database, design and implementation of new recruitment strategies. Execute volunteer orientations and trainings on marine mammal response once a month with potential for additional trainings as needed.
Marginal Responsibilities:
Respond to stranded marine mammals (seals, whales, and dolphins) across 300 miles of Massachusetts coastline Manage the stranding hotline 1-2 days per week Participate in school programs and other education events throughout Massachusetts Be a part of the greater Commonwealth Corps community, including participating in cross-site learning groups, writing a short profile for the CC newsletter, connecting with other members on our online platforms, and attending optional social/service events.
Who You Are:
You must be: A Massachusetts resident (see guidelines here) with legal authorization to work in the U.S. 18 years of age at minimum (member age range is 18 - 70+ years old) Excited to give back to your community and interested in developing your skills and gaining new professional experiences Committed to 10 months of service and able to balance service internship commitments with personal commitments in a sustainable way Enjoy working with the public, diverse audiences, and teams Comfortable working with live and dead animals Observant and have attention to detail Able to drive a vehicle and feel comfortable driving in the city Able to pass a background check Experienced with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Able to lift or move heavy objects (around 50 lbs) and work outside in adverse weather conditions As our work sometimes includes interactions with large crowds of people as well as direct contact with wild animals, we encourage our staff to stay up to date with vaccinations. CDC communicable disease recommendations are reviewed at frequent intervals and guide the updating of WDC\'s protocols to keep employees safe. It would also be great if you: Are eager to dive into new experiences and enjoy having a variety of tasks to work on Are comfortable with public speaking Speak a second language in addition to English (Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, etc.) - multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
