Job Description

Get behind the scenes at a real campaign: Have you ever wondered what it's like to be part of a political campaign? To help shape a campaign? To be in the trenches? Now is your chance to see civics, politics, and strategy in action. You will be immersed in the middle and see and hear what happens behind closed doors.
Position Overview:
The Campaign Coordinator will serve as a vital "right hand" to the Campaign Manager and Strategist. This role is designed for a motivated college student or graduate in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field who wants to learn the mechanics of a high-stakes election. You will assist with - and learn to lead on - everything from data management and volunteer directing to event logistics and policy research.
Key Responsibilities Data Management & Research:
Manage campaign's voter and donor databases. Help identify high-priority precincts, track voter contact trends and maintain records of outreach efforts. Maintain a donor database, including address, company and position.
Field Operations:
Coordinate and manage volunteer "lit drops" and door-knocking shifts. Help train and lead volunteers for community outreach.
Event Logistics:
Provide on-site support for fundraisers, town halls, meetings, and neighborhood "listening sessions." Manage RSVP lists and set up campaign signage.
Policy Support:
Conduct brief research interviews and memos on local issues such as housing, plowing, public safety, and budgeting to support the candidate's briefing book.
Communications:
Assist Strategist with social media in capturing "on-the-trail" content (photos/videos) and drafting community council updates.
Administrative Support:
Manage the campaign's general inbox, coordinate scheduling for the candidate, and ensure all materials include proper APOC disclaimers. Desired Skills & Qualifications Self-starter is a must - you will be trained, but not micro-managed. Upbeat, enthusiastic and community-minded, with a positive can-do attitude. You are organized, with attention to detail, and enjoy diving into whatever is asked of you. A sense of humor would be helpful. Decorum and discretion is a must.
Academic Background:
Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or Economics program.
Anchorage Knowledge:
An understanding of and interest in Anchorage's unique issues is helpful.
Communication Skills:
Excellent writing skills with the willingness to turn complex policy into relatable social media posts or talking points.
Tech Savvy:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (for data tracking) and familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok). Willing to learn voter database software.
Interpersonal Skills:
A "team player" personality. You must be comfortable receiving direction, but also leading, making decisions, talking to strangers, and representing the candidate professionally.
Organization:
Ability to manage multiple moving parts in a fast-paced, "marathon" campaign environment.
Reliability:
Must have reliable transportation to attend events and field shifts across the Municipality. What You Will Gain Direct mentorship from veteran political strategists and campaign professionals. A deep understanding of Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC) compliance and municipal election law. Practical experience in data-driven targeting and field organizing. A front-row seat to the development of a city-wide policy campaign.
Pay:
$1,500.00 per month
Benefits:
Flexible schedule On-the-job training Opportunities for advancement
