Job Description
270 Strategies seeks a community organizer to support state and local transportation campaigns in New York, New York City, and New Jersey. We're looking to hire an experienced organizer who wants to improve rideshare policies by supporting grassroots engagement, digital organizing, and driver and rider mobilization. This organizer will ensure that elected officials in Albany, Trenton, and NYC hear from drivers and riders when deciding on important policy issues that impact them. The organizer will spend a lot of time getting to know the New York and New Jersey rideshare communities and mobilize advocates to show their support during important legislative moments. If you believe, as we do, that we must maintain an innovative, flexible, and safe rideshare platform in New York and New Jersey, we want to hear from you. This person will be based in either New York or New Jersey. They will need their own housing, car, cell phone, and computer. The role is expected to start in July and run through the end of 2026. The Organizer's responsibilities will include: Advocate Recruitment & Training Recruit and grow a network of driver and rider advocates across NY and NJ who can be activated to take action on relevant policies Build and maintain an advocate pipeline with clear engagement tracks and retention strategies — ensuring that advocates remain connected and ready to take action when necessary Identify and train high-caliber drivers and riders to tell their personal stories compellingly In coordination with Campaign Manager, develop onboarding materials and training programs that equip driver advocates to engage confidently with lawmakers, government officials, and the press Online-to-Offline Mobilization Identify and activate driver and rider advocates in the five boroughs and across New York and New Jersey to engage elected officials and other stakeholders and to share their personal stories effectively Translate NY and NJ legislative priorities into real-world constituent action — turning digital sign-ups and email lists into drivers showing up at New York City Hall hearings and Statehouse visits in Albany and Trenton Plan and execute events tailored to local driver and rider communities Build a solid roster of rapid-response capacity so that when key votes or hearings emerge on the state or local level in NY or NJ, advocates can be mobilized quickly and show up in force Ongoing Responsibilities Answer questions from riders and drivers about policy positions and the campaign's goals Plan and report regularly on activities, outreach results, and upcoming opportunities to the Campaign Manager You might be a good fit if you: Have experience organizing in New York or New Jersey (ideally both) — you know the political landscape, the neighborhoods, and how to build trust in diverse communities Believe rideshare provides a critical economic and mobility advantage for New Yorkers and New Jersey residents Know how to quickly identify influential voices in a community and work to build genuine trust with them Are comfortable showing up to a meeting or event with little prep and building relationships from scratch At ease talking to elected officials and community members, alike Are a little fearless — you're comfortable asking people to testify on camera or walk into an elected official's office Are a problem solver — you spot the challenge, come up with multiple ways to tackle it, and know how to leverage your team Have experience navigating NY, NYC, and/or NJ government processes, including public hearings, legislative testimony, and agency proceedings
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
