Louisiana is one of the nation's most productive and valued states in energy exploration and production and is uniquely positioned to lead emerging and advanced technologies for the energy transition in addition to its historical role producing traditional energy and chemical products. As such, LSU seeks an innovative and experienced Executive Director to lead the Energy Institute, a newly formed institute which will play a vital role in Louisiana's energy future through the advancement of scholarship, research, policy, workforce development and solution delivery in key areas of interest. The Executive Director will lead LSU's Energy Institute, strengthen Louisiana's energy posture, and collaborate with industry and community stakeholders to develop a vision for the energy future across the state, nation, and globe. It is the paramount intention that the institute develops into an independent, trusted, and highly respected voice of the energy transition, supporting state, community, and parish policy development.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and facilitate the alignment of research, education, outreach, technology and policy areas, with special emphasis on energy issues in Louisiana. The Energy Institute will facilitate sponsor investigations to integrate educational and outreach activities into research, development, and demonstration projects. This role will also include oversight of the Louisiana Geological Survey, ensuring that its research, operational activities, and public engagement are aligned with the broader mission and strategic objectives of the Energy Institute. (25%) Design, facilitate, and execute a comprehensive and collaborative sponsored research program across campus (with collaboration with other institutions) that catalyzes research, scholarship, and innovation. A successful RD&D program will generate lasting and quantifiable societal impacts through a variety of exceptionally trained talent, expanded workforce, critical insights, new technologies, and improved economic and environmental policy. (25%) Serve as institute spokesperson representing LSU as liaison with public sector agencies, government officials, non-governmental organizations, industry, and the public to communicate the research and community impact of the Energy Institute. Work with community, regional, state, and industry stakeholders to position LSU and Louisiana as a leader in the energy ecosystem and promote the education and outreach capabilities at LSU to serve an informed public. (20%) Identify and secure competitive and non-competitive funding opportunities from government, industry, and other sources in relevant energy transition areas for research, scholarship, and education. Establish long-term financial stability for the Institute and associated programs at LSU. Work with community, regional, state, and industry stakeholders to position LSU and Louisiana as a leader in the energy innovation ecosystem. (20%) Manage annual budgets for the Energy Institute and develop year-end reporting on program investments and returns. Where appropriate, collaborate with campus stakeholders on program and facility investment to strengthen university research, talent, and technology development posture. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience. Distinguished record of professional contribution and leadership in the advancement of energy resources and exceptional knowledge that crosses multiple energy sectors; Demonstrated comprehension of energy policy and regulation, both domestic and international. Strong network and credibility with energy disciplined leaders; ability to establish collaborative endeavors and alliances domestically and abroad; ability to develop initiatives that attract regional, national, and international recognition and funding support; and, proven success in attracting funding sources to support and enhance research and technology through to commercialization. LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D in an energy related field and 10 or more years of experience. Professional Engineer, Professional Geoscientist, or comparable licensing. Distinguished record of professional contribution and leadership in the advancement of energy resources and exceptional knowledge that crosses multiple energy sectors; Demonstrated comprehension of energy policy and regulation, both domestic and international. Strong network and credibility with energy disciplined leaders; ability to establish collaborative endeavors and alliances domestically and abroad; ability to develop initiatives that attract regional, national, and international recognition and funding support; and, proven success in attracting funding sources to support and enhance research and technology through to commercialization.
