Job Description

Member Advocate General Summary Only the passionate need apply! At Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union, we believe your today does not define your tomorrow. As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we exist to expand access to fair and affordable financial services for those often left out of the financial mainstream. The role of Member Advocate is both challenging and deeply rewarding. You'll face tough situations—helping members who may have been turned away elsewhere, solving financial puzzles, and navigating complex needs—but when you truly embrace our mission, the impact is extraordinary. You will see firsthand how your efforts help members build trust, stability, and brighter financial futures. Position Definition As a Member Advocate, you will be the face and voice of PAFCU inside the branch. This role requires curiosity, compassion, and determination. You'll be expected to build relationships, listen deeply, and recommend solutions that empower members to take control of their finances. Because our branches are dynamic and member needs vary, you must be comfortable with change, proactive in communication, and self-driven to keep focused on both immediate needs and long-term strategic goals. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist members with all aspects of service—including transactions, accounts, and lending.
  • Originate, analyze, and process consumer loan applications with accuracy and member-first care.
  • Explain loan decisions transparently, offering alternatives when original requests cannot be met.
  • Open new accounts and match members to products/services based on their goals.
  • Participate in consultative sales—helping members uncover additional savings and opportunities.
  • Review and discuss credit reports with members to provide holistic guidance, identify opportunities for improvement, and support long-term financial wellness.
  • Manage teller duties, calls, and member inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
  • Approve exceptions and authorize fee refunds when appropriate to protect member trust.
  • Stay current with credit union services, industry trends, and compliance requirements.
  • Engage in team meetings to identify improvements, learn new processes, and share insights. Knowledge & Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; teller and lending experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and remain motivated in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A belief in the power of financial opportunity and the persistence to help members achieve it.
  • A curious mindset and a willingness to ask questions that uncover members' true needs.
  • A sense of ownership over every member interaction—seeing issues through to resolution and ensuring members feel valued and supported.
Compliance & Policy Oversight Must comply with all laws, statutes, rules and regulations which govern the credit union, including but not limited to all the components of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) provisions of the US Patriot Act and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Why This Role Matters Being a Member Advocate isn't just a job—it's a calling. You'll navigate tough conversations, help members overcome barriers, and represent PAFCU's mission in the community. For those who value helping people and truly embrace our purpose, this role will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your career.
