Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented Merchandise Planning Intern to join our team! This internship offers hands-on experience in retail planning, inventory management, sales analysis, and assortment strategy. The ideal candidate is passionate about retail, fashion, consumer products, or e-commerce and is eager to learn how merchandise decisions drive business performance. As a Merchandise Planning Intern, you will work closely with the Director of Planning to support forecasting, reporting, and inventory optimization initiatives that help maximize sales and profitability. Responsibilities Assist with weekly and monthly sales reporting and performance analysis Support inventory allocation and replenishment processes Analyze historical sales trends and customer demand patterns Monitor product performance and identify opportunities or risks Maintain and update planning spreadsheets and reports Collaborate cross-functionally with production, operations, and marketing teams Conduct competitive and market research to support planning decisions Participate in team meetings and contribute insights and recommendations Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related field Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas preferred) Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Interest in retail, merchandising, inventory planning, or consumer trends Experience with data visualization or planning tools is a plus Preferred Skills Comfortable working with large data sets Basic understanding of retail metrics such as sell-through, margin, weeks of supply, and inventory turnover Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn Self-starter with strong time management skills What You'll Gain Real-world experience in merchandise planning and retail operations Exposure to forecasting, inventory strategy, and assortment planning Mentorship from experienced retail and merchandising professionals Opportunity to contribute to impactful business decisions Professional development and networking opportunities
Duration:
2 days a week for 10-12 weeks, depending on the applicants availability. Please note this role is paid ($15/hr) and school credit is available. Applicants must be located in Chicagoland area.
