Store Decorator, Merchandiser & Buyer Locals - Home, Holiday & Gift Orem, UT Job Details Full-time Up to $22 an hour 12 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Employee discount Flexible schedule Qualifications Teamwork Interpersonal skills Customer service Merchandising High school diploma or GED Attention to detail Full Job Description Store Decorator, Merchandiser & Buyer Locals is an established home décor and gift retailer with locations in Orem, Logan, and Layton. We are looking for a Store Decorator, Merchandiser, and Buyer for our Orem location. This person will have a strong eye for design, a passion for home décor, and the ability to create beautiful, inviting retail displays that help drive sales. This is a hands-on creative position with real influence over the look and feel of our store. You will help select merchandise, plan seasonal assortments, and create displays for holidays, seasons, and everyday home décor. We do not rely on rigid planograms. We are looking for someone who understands how product should be presented, how customers shop, and how great displays can turn merchandise into sales. You will also have opportunities to collaborate with decorators from our other stores. In addition, our Head Decorator will work with you hands-on once per month to help with display planning, seasonal transitions, product flow, and overall merchandising direction. This position also includes company-paid buying trips to major Home Décor and Gift Markets in Dallas, Atlanta, or Las Vegas twice per year. These trips are an opportunity to see new trends, gather ideas, meet vendors, and help order product for the coming seasons. Schedule This position has a very flexible schedule and is full-time for most of the year, with the busiest periods centered around seasonal transitions, major display changes, and buying preparation. During slower months when the decorating and merchandising workload is lighter, hours may temporarily decrease to approximately 30 hours per week. Responsibilities Select and order home décor, seasonal décor, and gift merchandise within approved budgets Create attractive, effective displays on the sales floor in a timely manner Merchandise product in a way that improves presentation, customer interest, and product turn Review sales performance, customer response, inventory levels, and market trends to guide future buying decisions Monitor stock movement and recommend markdowns, promotions, price changes, closeouts, or reorders when appropriate Help maintain a fresh, organized, and inspiring sales floor throughout the year Work with managers, team members, and other decorators to execute seasonal transitions and display changes Participate in hands-on monthly support and collaboration with our Head Decorator Balance creativity with practical business goals, including sales, margins, inventory levels, and sell-through Skills and Qualifications Strong natural eye for decorating, styling, color, balance, and product presentation Proven experience in retail merchandising, decorating, buying, or a related creative retail role Passion for home décor, seasonal decorating, gifts, and retail trends Customer-service oriented with an understanding of how customers shop Strong verbal and written communication skills Good listening, presentation, and decision-making skills Ability to work well with different personalities and adapt to changing priorities Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once Customer service and/or sales experience preferred Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and walk for several hours at a time Must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a retail store environment Must be able to climb ladders Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds Must be comfortable moving merchandise, setting displays, and working hands-on throughout the store Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is creative, practical, dependable, and excited about making a store look amazing. You should love home décor and seasonal decorating, but also understand that great merchandising is about more than making things look pretty. It is about creating displays that inspire customers, move product, and help the store succeed.
