We are seeking a highly organized, creative, and proactive Retail & Merchandising Manager. Responsible for overseeing the presentation, performance, and retail operations. This role combines purchasing, merchandising, inventory management, store operations, and leadership to maximize sales, enhance the customer experience, and maintain brand standards across all locations, including our online store. The manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, vendors, online store warehouse, and store associates, to ensure consistent execution of merchandising strategies that drive revenue and strengthen The Gentle Barn's branding on quality products. This is a full time, hybrid position Sunday-Thursday, with some Saturdays as needed.
JOB DESCRIPTION
: Primary responsibilities will be to purchase and maintain merchandise, and create appealing and eye-catching visual display plans that lead the customer through the entire store, including displays, signs, interior displays, floor plans, and special promotion displays for all Gentle Barn stores. The Merchandiser must be extremely organized, have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, proven sales experience and ability to train the staff, strong analytical skills, be self-motivated, proficient in using Excel, and able to work independently and as part of a team with little supervision. Must be able to handle the challenges of supporting a team of diverse people.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
Manage merchandise inventory across all locations and eStore (Square & Shopify). Order, research, design and approve merchandise; collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and drop ship partners. Oversee eStore operations in Shopify, including product setup, updates, and promotional content. Design and execute visual merchandising strategies, displays, signage, and promotional campaigns. Monitor store performance, set sales targets, analyze reports, and provide regular financial updates. Lead, coach, and manage store associates; maintain weekly promotional calendars and team communications. Coordinate photography, advertising, and creative marketing efforts to support sales. Review invoices, warehouse reports, and budgets; ensure accurate billing and reporting. Prepare and deliver weekly, monthly, and CEO-level reports. Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications: Proven purchasing and merchandising experience, with strong vendor relationship management skills. Experience managing online stores; Shopify knowledge is a plus. Proficient in using POS systems, specifically Square. Strong financial skills with the ability to plan, allocate, and monitor budgets proactively. Reliable, conscientious self-starter with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. Strong leadership and communication skills to manage staff and collaborate across teams. Creativity in visual merchandising and promotional campaigns. Flexible schedule, including availability on weekends and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 25-50 lbs Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods throughout the day
