Public Works Assistant Fleet Maintenance Division Starting $13.73
00/hour Based on qualifications This position adheres to the Earned Sick Time Act and accrues paid time off. Eligible part-time employees also receive eight (8) hours of Personal Holiday time each January.

June 16, 2026, at 11:59pm The mission of the Fleet Maintenance Division is to provide the City of Troy with safe and efficient equipment and vehicle maintenance, repair, and replacement services through a workforce that values communication, teamwork, and quality of work. DUTIES Support the Fleet Maintenance Division with inventory management, material pickup and delivery, garage/parts room tasks, and administrative office tasks. May place telephone/online/in-person orders for fuel, oil, stock and non-stock parts. Clean vehicles and equipment to prepare them for auction. Perform daily, weekly, monthly and annual inventory control and associated tasks. Record incoming products and stock the parts room accordingly. Assist with processing invoices and billing. Enter and retrieve data from computer programs and databases. Maintain files, answer telephone phones, sort and distribute incoming mail. Perform related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or GED equivalent. Must be able to lift and move packages and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.; must be able to ascend/descend stairs to place and/or retrieve parts or equipment; must be able to move throughout the repair facility, stockroom, out of doors and other areas; must be able to identify/recognize product names, part numbers and other related information. A valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one (1) month of appointment. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a LEIN background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen (including marijuana).
PREFERENCES
Work experience with automobiles, auto parts and/or repair facility operations. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel. HOURS Twenty (20) hours per week, year-round. Work hours can be flexible but will most likely follow one of the two schedules: 7:30 am
- 4:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday and 12:00 pm
- 4:00 pm on Friday or 7:30 am
- 4:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday and 7:30 am
- 11:30 am on Friday.
