This position ensures an accurate inventory of essential parts and materials used to repair city of Las Vegas Fleet vehicles and equipment. Provides assistance with maintaining contract compliance with vendors. Distinguishing Characteristics Vehicle Parts Specialist I — This is the entry level class in the Vehicle Parts Specialist series. This class is distinguished from the Vehicle Parts Specialist II by the performance of more routine tasks and duties assigned to position within the series. This class may be used as a training class or the class may contain positions wherein employees perform routine tasks on a permanent basis and therefore remain at an entry level. Vehicle Parts Specialist II — This is the full journey level class in the Vehicle Parts Specialist series. This class is distinguished from the Vehicle Parts Specialist I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or when filled from the outside, by candidates with prior experience and certifications who can perform immediately at the higher level. Supervision Received Vehicle Parts Specialist I Receives immediate supervision from higher level staff. Vehicle Parts Specialist II Receives general supervision from higher level staff. Examination Process A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list. Eligible List You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. Selection Process Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Functions Oversees Parts Storage facilities and performs continual inventory verification. Estimate appropriate stocking levels for parts storage rooms. Accepts deliveries and verifies for completeness and damage upon receipt. Provide estimated time of delivery for parts to mechanics, update work order notes for long-lead parts. Reviews and verifies invoices are entered into the Fleet Management Information System (RTA) properly for each work order. Tracks warranty parts replacement. Verifies warranty exchanges and/or credits are completed. Maintains accurate and complete MSDS for all chemicals, products, and hazards within the Fleet Maintenance Facilities. Works with vendors to maintain best possible pricing. Oversees outside vendors that replenish minor shop-supplies. Verifies contract pricing is being maintained by vendors. Assists with monitoring budget usage and provide recommendations for annual budgeting. Monitor current trends in the market and maintain an inventory that will support the City of Las Vegas Fleet and Fuel Services department in maintaining operational vehicles and equipment for our user groups. Marginal Functions Maintains cleanliness of work areas frequently utilized. Assists Senior Mechanics with Annual Shop Tool and Equipment Inventory. Monitor condition of CLV small tools and equipment regularly utilized by Fleet employees. Stay abreast of trends and innovations in the fields of Fleet Maintenance and Inventory Management. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Vehicle Parts Specialist I Knowledge of Parts ordering process. Receiving parts to inventory. Charging out parts that Mechanics request. Purchase Requisition creation and approval process. Parts requisitions and ordering. Ability to Use a computer and the Fleet Management Information System (RTA). Read and write English. Understand parts requests and verify correct part is being ordered and delivered. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Maintain stocking levels in Parts storage area. Vehicle Parts Specialist II In addition to the qualifications for
Vehicle Parts Specialist I:
Knowledge of Best practices and procedures for parts inventory management. Automotive parts from various manufacturers. Terms and jargon utilized in the automotive repair industry. Best practices and procedures for parts inventory management. Principles of lead supervision and training. Departmental budgeting and accounting practices. Skills in Utilize computer based applications, including Microsoft Office applications, Teams, and WebEx. Perform inventory analysis. Create proper stocking levels for parts room. Perform inventory checks on a cyclical basis. Lead, organize, and review the workflow of others. Review and approve purchase requisitions. Review and reconcile P-cards utilized in the Parts department. Maintain accurate Material Safety Data Sheets on file for all chemicals utilized by the department.
