Grocery Team Member SLO Food Co-op
- 4.2 San Luis Obispo, CA Job Details Full-time $17
- $20 an hour 5 days ago Benefits Paid time off Employee discount Qualifications Driver's License Full Job Description We are seeking someone who is Meticulous, thrives on Team Energy, and often finds opportunity hidden in a challenge — we'll teach you "how to groceries.
" Snapshot, it's June, 2026… Two seven-foot-tall pallets of grocery items tower in front of you. You turn to see three u-boats lined up behind you, already labeled by their destination.
The mission is clear:
organize. Knowing your teammates will finish stocking the temperature-sensitive frozen and refrigerated items shortly, you take advantage of the quiet to build sturdy base layers of boxes on the u-boats just the way you like them. All in one seamless motion, you pull your box cutter from your apron pocket, click it open, slice through the plastic wrap on the first pallet, and resheath your blade, stashing it back in its pocket while pulling the first box off the pallet with your other hand—a well-practiced motion, muscle memory knowing exactly what to do. By the time Andrew finishes up in the freezer—consolidating a few bags of frozen veggies into one box and sliding his u-boat back into the backstock—you've already got the base layers set on the three grocery boats. He wheels his u-boat out to line up beside the others, then moves into lockstep with you. Ollie isn't far behind, pulling the refrigerated u-boat out of the walk-in and joining the grocery breakdown. The conversation wanders from personal to preposterous. A little from Andrew about the new NASCAR Hot Wheels he just added to his collection. Then an exhaustive discussion about whether vampires could live indefinitely underwater—and if so, whether they're currently hiding beneath the Caspian Sea, biding their time. You can chat freely because the work just flows. You can feel who's stepping where, with what, all anticipating each other's next five moves. A team flow state that's as natural as breathing… or not breathing, if you're secretly a vampire. Does This Sound Like You? You practice until things feel steady and reliable. You notice what's happening around you and adjust without needing to be asked. You take quiet responsibility for setting others up to work well—organizing logically, keeping pace, and following through so the team can stay in rhythm. You bring a little ridiculous into the mix, but never at the expense of the work. Shelf-Awareness Is a Plus At SLO Food Co-op, we believe grocery work is real work—honest, physical, and full of quiet skill. We're looking for someone who notices what's out of place, cares about doing things right, and takes pride in work that's steady and well-done. You don't need grocery experience to start here. If you move with purpose, stay organized, and enjoy contributing to a team that works in sync, we'll teach you the rest.
