Starting date of July 11 or earlier. We are hiring for 1 full-time position, 40hrs/week. This is an ongoing, permanent position. This is not a temporary position. If looking only for a summer job, please do not apply. Seeking a qualified, enthusiastic, self-directed individual to serve as a bookseller. This bookseller will spend the majority of their time on the sales floor helping readers connect with their next book. Our booksellers are the heart of our store and are what makes Chaucer's Books a place that our community comes back to. They pride themselves on knowing what our customers want, and deliver it through their friendliness, enthusiasm, knowledge, and love of books. Our booksellers are the first point of contact for customers and provide a friendly, professional, and helpful environment. Booksellers should feel comfortable talking about and selling a range of books and may have specializations in particular sections or genres. The main responsibilities of a bookseller are customer service, point-of-sale transactions, basic merchandising and inventory, making book recommendations, restocking and shelving, answering phones, as well as general store maintenance and upkeep. Responsibilities Greeting customers and giving advice based on a strong knowledge of store inventory and expressed customer needs. A helpful attitude, research skills, and the perseverance to find a book even when the customer isn't able to provide a lot of information. Basic merchandising and inventory displays. Includes shelving, creating displays, and organizing books and other merchandise. Point-of-sale transactions include sales, customer returns/exchanges, taking special orders, and gift-wrapping. Participating in marketing and promotions includes contributions to the newsletter, writing reviews, and involvement in upcoming events and promotions. Help with maintenance of the store's visual appeal and cleanliness. Includes keeping the store clean, safe, and comfortable for customers and staff. Duties include dusting, vacuuming, cleaning bathroom facilities, trash, and recycling. Requirements Must love books! Enthusiasm for keeping up with new titles. Interested in working in a collaborative environment as part of a team. Enjoys being around and talking to people. Must communicate well in person, on the phone, and via email. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn our Point of Sale system and inventory database (training provided). Creative problem-solver and self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision after training; show initiative to do what needs to be done, to the best of your knowledge and ability, even without explicit instructions for every task. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks. Willingness to learn and share knowledge with others Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds. Ability to be on your feet for hours at a time.
