Wine Sales Associate (Wine Consultant) Rodman's is seeking an engaging, knowledgeable, and customer-focused Wine Sales Associate to join our team at our DC location. This role is centered around creating a welcoming and educational experience for our customers — helping them discover great wines, understand flavor profiles, and find the perfect bottle for every occasion. The ideal candidate has a strong passion for wine, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and thrives in a customer-facing retail environment. They should enjoy building relationships, sharing product knowledge, and guiding customers through our diverse and ever-changing wine selection. This position plays a vital role in maintaining Rodman's long-standing reputation for excellence, expertise, and service. The Wine Sales Associate will work closely with the store's alcohol department and management team to enhance the in-store experience, drive wine sales, and represent Rodman's high standards of product knowledge and hospitality. Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Experience & Sales Actively engage with customers on the sales floor, offering friendly and knowledgeable recommendations based on taste, food pairings, and budget. Build relationships with both new and regular customers, fostering trust and loyalty through outstanding service. Educate customers on wine regions, grape varietals, vintages, and trends in an approachable and engaging way. Upsell and cross-sell wines, including higher-end selections, accessories, and related items. Support department goals by achieving sales targets and promoting featured or seasonal products. Merchandising & Store Presentation Maintain attractive and organized wine displays that reflect Rodman's visual and brand standards. Assist with seasonal resets, special features, and promotional displays to drive customer interest. Ensure shelves are fully stocked, clean, and correctly labeled with pricing and signage. Product Knowledge & Education Stay up to date on current wine trends, producers, and industry developments. Participate in tastings, trainings, and vendor visits to continuously enhance knowledge. Share product insights with team members to elevate overall department expertise. Operations & Support Assist in receiving wine deliveries, checking orders for accuracy, and stocking shelves. Support inventory counts and help identify high-performing and slow-moving items. Communicate feedback on customer preferences and product opportunities to department leadership. Qualifications & Skills Strong passion for wine and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with customers. Prior experience in wine sales, hospitality, or customer service preferred. Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills. Professional demeanor and ability to engage customers of all experience levels — from casual drinkers to collectors. Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a dynamic retail setting. Basic understanding of wine regions, varietals, and pairings (formal training or certifications a plus). Ability to lift and stock cases of wine (up to 40 lbs). Weekend and holiday availability required.
