Sales Associate

Job Summary As a Store Associate, you will provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to customers while supporting daily store operations. The primary goal is to deliver exceptional customer service, help with sales, and maintain an organized, clean store environment. Previous hardware or retail experience is preferred but not required, as training is provided.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service :

Greet customers promptly and courteously upon entering the store. Proactively assist customers in finding products, solving problems, and offering advice on hardware, tools, paint, plumbing, electrical, lawn & garden, and home improvement items. Thank customers and ensure a positive experience to encourage return visits. Handle customer inquiries, special orders, and complaints professionally.

Sales and Merchandising :

Generate sales by suggesting related products and upselling where appropriate. Maintain orderly merchandise displays, including end caps, promotions, and signage. Assist with merchandise resets and ensuring products are priced accurately.

Store Operations :

Receive, check in, stock, and price incoming merchandise. Maintain back stock levels and organize the stock room. Keep the sales floor, aisles, and overall store clean and safe. Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems for transactions (some roles include cashier duties). Assist with loading heavy items for customers or other tasks as needed.

Team and Other Duties :

Work collaboratively with team members and management. Participate in store meetings and ongoing product knowledge training. Communicate ideas for improving sales, merchandising, or operations. Perform additional duties as assigned, such as assembling products or handling returns. Requirements and Qualifications Outgoing, friendly, and helpful personality with strong communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment and interact with diverse customers. Basic math skills for handling transactions.

Physical demands:

Standing/walking for extended periods, lifting up to 40-50 lbs (occasionally more), climbing ladders, and bending/reaching. Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; retail or hardware knowledge is a plus. Work Environment Moderate noise level in a retail setting. May involve exposure to outdoor weather when assisting with loading or garden areas.

Pay:

$15.00 - $17.00 per hour
