Retail Sales Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

Maui Ocean Center is currently seeking a friendly, charismatic, enthusiastic, and service-focused individual to join our Retail team! Retail Sales Associates are brand ambassadors of the Maui Ocean Center. Our ideal candidate is friendly and approachable, highly self-motivated, and willing to learn new things and meet new people. Retail Sales Associates are expected to use professional selling techniques to meet and exceed daily sales goals along with the whole retail team. Provide excellent customer service so customers have a favorable impression of Maui Ocean Center and are fully satisfied. Keeps informed about merchandise and events of both the store and the park. Handles register transactions and other procedures efficiently. Works with other Retail staff to keep department neat, safe and well-stocked. Retail Sales Associates shall exhibit a positive attitude, enjoy working with the public and exemplify professional and ethical behavior at all times while furthering the mission of the organization. The Maui Ocean Center's mission is to foster wonder, understanding and respect for Hawai'i's marine life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Primary roles and responsibilities of a Maui Ocean Center Retail Sales Associate are as follows:

• Acknowledge and greet customers in a friendly and genuinely welcome manner.
• Assist customers in a friendly and casual manner in a low sales pressure environment.
• Provide customers with information about the features, functions and benefits of products that might interest them.
• Help customers make their selections and suggest additional merchandise to complement their selection and increase the sale.
• Inform customers of any special events; sales coming up and other services available. (delivery, special events happening within Maui Ocean Center)
• Complete sales efficiently including register transaction, wrapping and other follow-up.
• Help to merchandise incoming products onto the selling floor in a timely fashion. Merchandising using the rotating stock method, so that older products are front faced and put out for sale before newer products.
• Help to put together product displays that are visually appealing and easily shoppable.
• Monitors stock on the sales floor and replenishes merchandise from stock room as needed.
• Helps to complete assigned daily tasks and chores assigned to them.
• Be able to work well in a team environment, as well as a self-motivated individual with little supervision.
• Attends and participates in department meetings, reads product information, and relays information to customers.
• Helps keep department neat, clean and safe. (mopping floors, dusting and cleaning all windows)
• Reports any customer concerns or complaints and potential product issues to Sales Leads or Retail Director immediately.
• Assist getting the store prepped for store opening and closing.
• Keep assigned register area neat, tidy, safe, and fully-stocked with supplies that are needed daily. It is expected that they restock their supplies at the end of the day to prepare the area for the following day's operations.
• Available to assist with the Retail physical inventory.
• Must be able to work days, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
• Must be able to work as a cashier at the Front Gate as needed.

• Other duties may be periodic or performed on as "as needed" basis as assigned by the Retail Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Exceptional guest service skills, including public speaking and written communication skills.
• Previous experience working in a retail position and environment preferred, but not required.
• Must provide adequate availability for work opportunities including day shifts, on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays & night functions.
• Applicant must be 18 years of age or older
• Applicant must be a US citizen or have permanent resident alien status
• Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language
• Adhere to Maui Ocean Center's policies and procedures set forth by the employee handbook
• Applicant must pass a background check and drug test.
• Prefer on island candidates

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Standing and walking for several hours at a time
• Communicating with guests and colleagues throughout the day
• Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift merchandise and move fixtures and displays.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs in a safe manner.
