Job Description

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Customer service: Delivering outstanding levels of customer service. Maintain a high level of customer service through all personal interaction with associates and customers. Addresses all questions and inquiries by customers. When a question is asked that cannot be answered by sales associate, locate the appropriate person to help the customer. Operate cash register and verify purchase price: Identify and locate UPC codes on items, correct scan codes, correctly use department codes for items without UPC's, obtain assistance for price checks when an item code is not readable or is missing.
Packages customer goods:
Package a customer's purchases unassisted and place bags back into customer's shopping cart if needed.
Process customer payments:
Accurately process all forms of customer payments that are accepted by the company including cash, store credit, business checks and credit cards. Payment processing duties include correctly counting cash and making change, use of electronic credit card terminal, verification of customer identification for credit cards and business checks, recordation of driver's license number, date of birth and phone number on checks, and communication with shift manager on issues with payments (such as internet timeouts on credit cards and suspicious checks). Execute and maintain company standards and support all policies and procdures.
Store presence:
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, housekeeping ( cleaning and fronting merchandise) to help create an appealing and inviting environment in which customers may shop.
Operations:
Must comply with all company directives. Maintain company equipment and store cleanliness.
Remove cardboard and trash:
Take any empty boxes from the store to the recycling dumpster Box cutter usage: Safe operation of bladed instrument for opening boxes of merchandise, without damaging merchandise.
Re-shop merchandise:
Returning merchandise to its proper location on the sales floor. This requires knowledge of sales floor location and proper merchandising techniques and can be accomplished either by hand or by cart.
Apply shelf tags:
Manually placing shelf tags on correct peg hooks.
Work overstocks:
Move merchandise to and from the gondola from top shelving, hooks or from the backroom.
Merchandise search:
Physically searching for items that have been backstocked, or items that have been stored away. Find an appropriate and visible place to store item.
Loss prevention:
Observe people who attempt to steal merchandise, supplies, and/or money from the company. This is not limited to customers, as these issues could arise from coworkers. Upon observation, notify manager on duty and follow store operating procedure. Return merchandise to the stock room: Taking merchandise that could not be stocked at the time back to the stock room and appropriately placing the item in the correct category with a backstock sticker.
Stock inquiries:
Telephone calls from customers inquiring about whether a particular item is in stock. These calls should be handled by sales associate, as they have ability to check the availability of the item and the price of the item. Sales associate should provide clear and correct information the the customer and offer to hold items if availability is low.
Assist cashier when needed:
Assist cashier when line becomes lengthy or when cashier is assisting customer with balloons. Sales associate may also take balloon orders as well. Sales associate should always be the back-up cashier.
Suggestively sell:
Able to make suggestions on customer's purchase based on items in cart already and the type of party or event they are planning.
Sell-up when possible Product knowledge:
To better assist our customers, you will have the ability to describe benefits of a product, and know the components of an item and how it can be used.
Retention and execution of tasks:
Able to learn and perform all essential job functions at an acceptable level with minimal supervision within 3 weeks. As a sales associate, you may be called upon to perform tasks that do not fall under the specific accountabilities of your position.
