Job Description

ORGANIZATION MISSION
The mission of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum is to document, interpret and preserve the complex experiences, contributions, and culture of Black people. We serve as a catalyst for sustained change by providing programs and exhibitions and bold conversations that educate and challenge.
POSITION SUMMARY
Museum Shop Sales Associate is a part-time retail sales, customer services, and shop administration position in the Finance Department of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. The position reports to the Retail Merchandise Specialist and works collaboratively with Visitor Experience staff to ensure visitor satisfaction. The ideal candidate can work a flexible 24-29 hours/week schedule that may include weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Processes retail sales, donations, memberships, and various payments through a Point of Sale system
  • Serves as general museum reception, greeting the public, special guests, members, and groups in a cheerful, receptive manner at all times
  • Shares opportunities for membership, general museum information, information on current exhibits, and purchase suggestions to guests
  • Accurately accepts cash, debit and credit cards, and other forms of payment
  • Provides accurate end-of-day counts of cash intake and starting and ending drawers
  • Assists with stock receipts, merchandising, inventory audits and other shop administration as needed
  • Ensures a positive and safe experience for all Museum users including exhibit visitors, program participants, and those participating in on-site rentals
  • Captures accurate statistical, marketing and membership data in the Salesforce database
  • Maintains a clean, business-like front-of-line work environment
  • Cross-training as a Visitor Experience Associate in case of need
  • Assists with other duties as required
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven sales experience and ability to meet daily/weekly sales goals
  • Experience accurately handling cash transactions and credit card processing
  • Proficiency with email and Point of Sale systems, Salesforce database experience a plus.
  • Proficient organizational and time management skills and strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to work under general direction, independently, and collaboratively
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and maintain professional demeanor
REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be a high-school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be a United States citizen or possess a qualified Green card, work visa or permit
Compensation:
