Full Job Description Important Note:

This position is for shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays - must be available to work those days weekly. We're looking for someone who loves books and food! As a Retail Associate, you are often the first person the customer interacts with. This person should be friendly, professional, and helpful in advising on all things books and sandwiches. Our Retail Associates prioritize customer service. From a welcoming greeting to attention to the store's appearance, the small details matter when providing superior service. Retail Associates will advise customers on books and food, so we're looking for someone who loves to make recommendations and talk about both. Our Retail Associate should be prepared to help customers find their next read while assisting them in selecting a sandwich for lunch. If you don't know much about the publishing industry, come prepared to learn, research, and persevere to find a book even when you're told, "The book was red. Do you know the title?" Main responsibilities: Customer Service Point of Sale Transactions Taking Food Orders and Serving Merchandising and Inventory Maintain Store Environment Participating in Promotions and Events Examples include but are not limited to: Sales Special orders Gift wrapping Receiving inventory Shelving Displays Organizing Food service Coffee making Food orders Dusting bookshelves Restocking shelves Wiping tables Cleaning bathrooms Writing book reviews Attending and coordinating events

Skills:

Alphabetizing - must be able to alphabetize books Previous serving or restaurant experience a plus Previous retail experience a bonus Point of sale system experience, we use TOAST Creative problem-solver and self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision after training; show initiative to do what needs to be done to the best of your knowledge and ability, even without explicit instructions. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.

Other Requirements:

Must genuinely enjoy being around and talking to people! Must communicate well in person. Enthusiasm for keeping up with new titles. Ability to bend, stoop, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds. Ability to be on your feet for hours at a time. Hours 15-25 hours per week Some nights and weekends are required; hours and daily schedule will vary. Increased availability during holidays.
