Job Description

Sales Associate - ( 26141413 ) MTHS has an opening for two part-time Sales Associate. This position works as a member of the museum store team and is responsible for assisting customers throughout the shopping process.
Function:
Under the direction of the Museum Store Manager, this is a customer service professional who helps customers find products and services and assists with daily store operations.
Other:
The Sales Associate will work a standard 18-hour a week schedule to include, Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday to be determined based on scheduling needs. Holiday coverage will be required, and Holiday pay will be provided. Come join us at the MTHS where we work together to share Montana's stories and inspire exploration!
Representative Duties:
Respond to customers' questions about merchandise, such as promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and merchandise selection. Take inventory or examine merchandise to identify items to be reordered or replenished. Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred merchandise. Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money, balancing cash drawers, making deposits, and reconciling payments with sales. Receive and process payment for sales, exchanges, and returns. Prepare sales slips, sales contracts, return slips, and other documents related to sales and merchandise. Assist customers by resolving complaints. Prevent or handle security risks and thefts. Process online orders from the Store's website and phone orders from its catalog. Provide customer service to the public selling books and merchandise with a professional and courteous attitude. As team members who engage with the public, store personnel are expected to contribute to the welcoming and accommodating atmosphere the museum fosters for its guests. Create and update merchandise displays and ensure the Store is well organized. Work in the MTHS customer database and ensure membership discounts are properly applied to MTHS subscriber purchases in the Store. Be knowledgeable about Montana and the Historical Society's history and share this knowledge with museum guests.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalency
Experience:
One-year job related work experience Handling cash Customer service Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted
Knowledge of:
Point of Sales systems

Hours of Operation:
The Montana Heritage Center operates seven days a week and is open all holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas. As an employee of the Montana Historical Society your work hours may fall outside of a regular Montana to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule. In accordance with HB 13, this position will receive a $1.00 per hour raise beginning July 1, 2026.
