Job Description
Wash & Pack Crew Member Youngs Farm is seeking a Wash and Pack Member. We are a NY-NOFA certified organic fruit vegetable farm located in Old Brookville, NY that has been managed by the same family since its founding in 1893. The farm grows approximately 10 acres of crops, almost exclusively sold through the on-site retail store.
Job Description:
While working in conjunction with our existing Wash and Pack Manager as well as our Farm Manager, your duties will include but are not limited to: Primary responsibilities: washing/packaging/labeling doing quality control checks work space maintenance generating labels/printing computer data entry into our inventory/logging system Secondary responsibilities: planting, harvesting weeding/field maintenance Must be willing to work in greenhouses, fields, and our wash and pack facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be dependable, have a positive attitude, an eye for detail, and an all around team player. Physical dexterity and the ability to work in all weather conditions during the season are a must. Experience in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Propagation is preferable although not required.Qualifications:
Computer skills are a must Bilingual Preferred Ability to work and communicate with a small team (provide instruction in the delegation of tasks at times), including thinking critically and independently Track, log, and manage organization of produce inventory Communicate produce availability to store and kitchen managers Pack and process produce into specified units Create labels for labeled items- Able to follow instructions
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining a sense of urgency
- A keen interest in organic agriculture and a desire to learn more about it
- Previous work experience, on-farm is ideal, secondarily in demanding trades (i.e. landscaping, construction, commercial kitchen, grocery produce department, etc.)
- Machinery and mechanical experience is an added value
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and be comfortable working outside in all the elements (rain or shine)
- Able to commute to and from work reliably
Schedule:
(Seasonal with potential for year round employment); Thursday-Monday- willing to train strong applicants without experience
Compensation :
Hourly- $18-20/hour
- commensurate with ability and experience
Other:
- Friday and Saturday required; Weekday availability with two days off
- 9 hour shift
- Bonus pay
