Job Description

At Academy Sports + Outdoors, our Purpose is to make it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoors . The Sales Team Member , through a passion for athletics and at leisure, is responsible for helping customers navigate the abundance of choices Academy has to offer. By suggesting products based on activity, price point, and style preferences the Sales Team Member provides a premier customer experience. You will work alongside a collaborative store team that includes fellow Sales Team Members, Leads, and Store Leadership, all focused on delivering a great customer experience. Together, you will share product knowledge, support each other during peak times, and celebrate wins on the sales floor. You will also interact with customers from all backgrounds; athletes, families, and outdoor enthusiasts and build trust and connection through friendly, knowledgeable service. Your ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team helps create a positive environment for both customers and coworkers. The Receiving Team Member , as part of our Logistics group, is responsible for receiving products into the stockroom and getting ready for placement on the sales floor quickly and safely. You'll work closely with the Logistics team, store leadership, and merchandising partners to ensure merchandise flows seamlessly from the truck to the floor. Collaboration is key, as you'll coordinate daily priorities, communicate discrepancies, and support shared goals across teams. You may also partner with eCommerce and sales floor teams as needed, helping ensure online orders and in-store needs are met. Together, you'll create a dependable, organized operation that supports teammates and customers alike. The Merchandising Team is responsible for supporting the logistics processes in an Academy store by ensuring our merchandise is available on the floor, displayed in an appealing way to drive sales in all categories. You will collaborate closely with Store Leadership, Merchandising Leads, and fellow Team Members to deliver a consistent and compelling store environment. Communication and teamwork are essential as you align with others to execute priorities and respond to business needs. You will also partner cross‑functionally with team members across departments, supporting shared goals and stepping in where needed to keep the store running smoothly. Together, you help create a welcoming environment for both customers and teammates. The Inventory Control Team Member supports our store's in-stock standards through maintaining compliance and solid operational processes. You will work closely with store leadership, operations partners, and loss prevention teams to maintain a secure and well‑organized environment. Collaboration will be a daily part of your role as you coordinate with team members across departments to support inventory accuracy and customer service. You will also partner with compliance and training teams, ensuring procedures are followed and best practices are reinforced. Together, you will help create a store environment where safety, accountability, and teamwork are part of how work gets done. The e-Commerce Fulfillment Team Member , through an enthusiasm for the sports and outdoors business, is responsible for a premier customer experience in our curbside and in store pick up areas. This position provides products and solutions to a diverse customer base. The Cashier is an essential part of customer service in any Academy store. He/she is responsible for ensuring a fast, friendly, and accurate checkout experience for all customers. You will work alongside a supportive team of store leaders and fellow team members who share a passion for serving customers and working together. Daily collaboration with sales floor partners, leadership, and support teams ensures accurate transactions, smooth handoffs, and a consistent customer experience. This role regularly interacts with customers from all backgrounds, creating opportunities to build trust and represent the Academy brand with confidence. You will also partner closely with leaders who provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to help you grow your skills and succeed in your role. Through this important work, the Team Member impacts customer satisfaction, store profitability, and Academy's Purpose. What You Bring Bring your energy, your ideas, and your love for sports and the outdoors. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred At least one (1) year of work experience in a large‑format retail environment preferred Strong customer service skills with the ability to connect, build rapport, and engage with customers Effective communication and problem-solving skills when working with customers and team members Ability to execute multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and organization Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals Basic math skills and the ability to apply common-sense understanding to written or verbal instructions Comfort using technology such as Microsoft products and basic computer systems A team-first attitude; while your core duties are your priority, you're happy to step in wherever you're needed Work Style & Physical Requirements Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business needs Capability to remain on your feet and move throughout the store for extended periods during scheduled shifts Ability to perform physical job functions such as walking, bending, reaching, pulling, carrying, and lifting items up to 50 lbs Capacity to complete repetitive tasks, including scanning, stocking, and folding merchandise Comfort using ladders or step stools to access merchandise as needed Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced retail environment while adapting to shifting priorities Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties Ability to adhere to company policies and professional standards
