The Crisis Center of Comal County (CCCC) is seeking a Thrift Shop Associate to support the operation of the thrift shop and donation station, helping generate revenue for the Crisis Center while providing trauma-informed support to individuals and families experiencing crisis, including survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness. About the Role The Thrift Shop Associate plays a key role in the daily operations of the Crisis Center of Comal County's thrift shop and donation station, helping generate revenue that supports agency programs while assisting individuals and families in crisis. This position provides excellent customer service, processes donations, manages inventory and merchandising, supports volunteers, and helps maintain a welcoming, organized retail environment. In addition to retail operations, the Thrift Shop Associate provides compassionate, trauma-informed support to clients by assisting with voucher fulfillment and access to essential items. The role requires a dependable, detail-oriented individual who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, values teamwork and community impact, and is committed to serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, and other crises with dignity and respect.
What You'll Do Customer Service:
Deliver welcoming, professional customer service to shoppers, donors, volunteers, and clients, including assisting with voucher redemption and essential needs.
Cash Handling:
Accurately process cash, credit card, voucher, and in-store credit transactions in accordance with agency procedures.
Merchandising & Display:
Organize, stock, and maintain attractive merchandise displays to create a clean and inviting shopping environment.
Inventory Management:
Receive, sort, track, and maintain donated goods and inventory to support store operations and client needs.
Pricing & Tagging:
Assess donated items for quality and value, price merchandise appropriately, and ensure accurate labeling.
Store Maintenance:
Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and hazard-free thrift shop and donation station environment.
Donor Relations:
Foster positive relationships with donors by providing excellent service, expressing appreciation, and supporting donation intake.
Client Care & Assistance:
Compassionately support clients in crisis by helping fulfill vouchers and access essential items and resources.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and shelter personnel to support agency goals and daily operations.
Marketing & Social Media:
Assist with promoting the thrift shop through social media, marketing efforts, and community engagement.
Volunteer Management:
Support and guide volunteers by assigning tasks, providing direction, and encouraging positive engagement.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned while following agency safety, security, and confidentiality practices. You stay calm and focused in high-stress situations, showing empathy and professionalism. You are highly organized, communicate clearly, and can work well in a fast-paced environment. You thrive both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Additional Requirements High school diploma or GED. Cash handling experience and basic math skills. Current, valid Texas driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance. Ability to pass an extensive background check (including fingerprinting, drug screen, and driver's record check). Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred:
Previous retail experience highly preferred Experience working with high-acuity populations, including survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness, is a plus. Why Join Us?
