THRIFT SHOP CLERK
Job Summary:
The Thrift Shop Clerk assists with sorting donated merchandise and categorizing/pricing goods by use and condition. Attends to the customer's needs, interacts with donors, handles cash and product. May be required to act as an alternate Thrift Shop Manager. Job Status:
PRN; Non-Exempt Reports to: Thrift Shop Manager / Thrift Shop Assistant Manager Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Thrift Store or other retail experience. Demonstrates personal integrity, appropriate personal presence and strong work ethic. Basic cash register, computer and calculator skills. Able to solve problems, make decisions, set priorities and keep accurate, orderly records. Able to work effectively within a team as well as independently. Organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills. Duties and Responsibilities:
Donations Oversee inventory flow by assisting volunteers to selectively choose what incoming donations to retain for sale, recycle, or store. Help process goods by moving donated items to the correct areas. Exhibit compassion and friendliness to all customers and donors. Complete and provide donor paperwork/tax receipts when requested. Help coordinate deliveries/pickups (recycling/donations, etc.). Day to Day Coordination Communicate and work cohesively with staff, volunteers and the public to foster a warm, courteous, friendly and professional atmosphere. Oversee pricing procedures to ensure consistency while maximizing the value of each donation. Must be cross trained in all areas and able to fill in when necessary. Regularly inspect supply inventories and communicate needs to Thrift Shop Management. Follow proper cash register procedures and other charging mechanisms. Ensure volunteers comply with security, safety, sales and record keeping policies and procedures. Monitor store areas for safety and security issues. Ensure each work area is clean and organized prior to the next volunteer shift. Look for new ways to promote the Hope Hospice Thrift Shop in the community. In the absence of (or request of) the Thrift Shop Manager or Assistant Manager, the Thrift Shop Clerk will: Train, assign and provide guidance to new volunteers. Available to direct, encourage and support volunteers with their daily activities. Review sales reports and share customer/donation feedback with management. Close the daily till, prepare daily deposits and oversee cash register sales for accuracy. Oversee the payment processes and any necessary equipment. Utilize active listening and report any concerns or issues regarding volunteers and customers and/or donors to the Thrift Shop manager promptly. General Supports philosophy and objectives of Hope Hospice. Maintains professional appearance, behavior, attitude, and integrity. Stay abreast of and abide by all policies and procedures of the agency. Maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior. Promote a team approach through cooperation, mutual respect, flexibility, and dependability. Exhibit good stewardship of resources, including self-care. Reads materials and attends in-services, seminars, or conventions as needed for professional growth. Contributes to an atmosphere of excellence, mutual respect, and caring. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Working Conditions:
Frequent reaching, bending/stooping, crawling/crouching. and stretching. Prolonged standing and walking required. May be required to repeatedly lift, carry, push/pull greater than 50 pounds. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, both in person and by telephone. Must be flexible to work weekends when necessary. To ensure the safety of all personnel and parties, the buddy principle (2 individuals) will be utilized while on the Thrift Shop premises.
