FOODSERVICE TEAM MEMBER LOCATION
Manassas Park Elementary School (MPES), Manassas Park High School (MPHS), and the
Manassas Park Community Center SALARY:
$25.00 per hour
HOURS:
Temporary; 2-4 hours per day, depending upon assigned location

JOB SUMMARY
The Summer Foodservice Team Team Member performs semi-skilled work preparing, serving, and distributing meals as part of the Summer Foodservice Programs. Responsibilities include preparing, cooking, and serving summer meals in accordance with approved menus and program requirements. Employees assist with maintaining sanitary food service areas, collecting meal counts and records, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale. General knowledge of the use and care of food preparation equipment. General knowledge of food values and nutrition. General knowledge of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) rules and regulations related to school and summer meal programs. Skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, parents, and community members. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to stand for extended periods and work in warm kitchen environments. Must possess patience and understanding when interacting with children and families.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
(including but not limited to the following) Assists with meal service and distribution at assigned Summer Foodservice Program locations. Ensures meals are prepared, served, and documented in accordance with USDA and program guidelines. Receives, stores, and stocks food supplies while maintaining proper sanitation and food safety standards. Washes pots, pans, kettles, trays, and other cooking utensils. Operates dishwashers, mixers, choppers, slicers, steamers, ovens, and other food service equipment. Cleans work surfaces, food preparation areas, serving areas, and dining spaces. Sweeps, mops, and performs other custodial duties as assigned. Assists in estimating, ordering, and inventorying food supplies. Maintains accurate meal count and production records as required. Provides courteous and professional customer service to students, families, staff, and community members. Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment and physical and mental demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters and is expected to meet while performing the essential functions of this position. This position is performed primarily in an indoor commercial kitchen and cafeteria environment. Employees are regularly exposed to food preparation equipment, ovens, steam, refrigeration units, cleaning chemicals, moving mechanical parts, wet floors, noise, temperature fluctuations, and odors associated with food preparation and service. The position requires frequent movement throughout kitchen, serving, storage, and cafeteria areas and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced food service environment. The School Nutrition Team Member must be able to perform light to medium physical work, including frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling supplies, food products, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving heavier items with assistance. Employees are required to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday, regularly bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined spaces. The position requires frequent use of hands and fingers for food preparation, serving, cleaning, operating kitchen equipment, and handling cash. Employees must be able to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment and food preparation machinery and occasionally use ladders or step stools to access supplies. Visual abilities required for this position include close-range vision for food preparation, measuring ingredients, reading recipes, menus, labels, and safety information, as well as the ability to observe surroundings in areas with bright lighting, steam, and moving equipment. Employees must also maintain awareness of their environment through peripheral vision and be able to recognize potential safety hazards. The position requires the ability to listen to and understand verbal instructions, communicate effectively with coworkers, students, and supervisors, and read and follow written recipes, procedures, schedules, and USDA regulations. Employees must be able to apply established food service procedures, maintain attention to detail, accurately perform basic mathematical calculations related to food preparation and cash handling, and identify and respond appropriately to food safety, sanitation, and operational concerns. The ability to work efficiently under time constraints, maintain a high level of concentration during meal service periods, and consistently assess the accuracy, cleanliness, safety, and quality of assigned work is essential. Additionally, employees must be able to work for extended periods in environments with elevated temperatures and humidity levels associated with commercial food preparation while maintaining productivity, safety, and customer service standards.
