Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic and romance-savvy Bookseller to join our team at Shelf Indulgence - Tacoma's first romance-only bookstore. The ideal candidate is a passionate reader with deep knowledge of the romance genre and a strong commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. As a Bookseller, you'll play a key role in cultivating a warm, book-loving community while delivering exceptional customer service and contributing to the success of our growing store. Responsibilities Provide outstanding customer service by engaging with customers and helping them discover books they'll love - especially within the romance genre. Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system efficiently, handling transactions accurately and following cash-handling protocols. Maintain an organized, visually inviting store through thoughtful merchandising, shelving, and restocking. Share enthusiasm for upcoming releases, in-store events, and book clubs to foster community engagement and boost sales. Contribute to store operations, including assisting with inventory counts and data entry. Demonstrate clear and respectful communication skills, including phone and email etiquette. Support team cohesion by modeling inclusive behavior and participating in a collaborative environment. Complete our in-house sensitivity training, which includes modules on inclusive language, not assuming pronouns, and creating a judgment-free environment around customers' book choices. Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and enthusiasm for the romance genre is required. Previous retail or customer service experience preferred (bookstore experience a plus). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage warmly with diverse clientele. Basic math and POS skills for transactions and inventory tasks. Visual merchandising skills to help design engaging displays. Reliability, punctuality, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
