$22.00 to $34.00 per hour
Summary :
Responsible for assisting the Center Store Manager to meet goals for sales, margin, waste, labor, inventory, customer service and safety. The role of this position is to provide managerial presence in the absence of the department manager. This includes being scheduled to work the days in which the department manager is not present, providing Center Store Department staff with the tools and direction required to be successful.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models and teaches BriarPatch's Customer Service standards to all staff.
Provides support to staff and ultimately makes the final call in dealing with specific customer complaints and concerns, in the absence of the Center Store manager. Reports customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to Center Store manager. Maintains a pleasant, helpful relationship with co-workers and customers. Establishes and/or maintains professional relationships with outside vendors delivery drivers, and repair technicians. Provides on-floor assistance as needed in a friendly and helpful manner. Has functional knowledge of how Co-ops operate and be able to explain key concepts to customers. Department Operations
  • Assist Center Store Manager with all aspects of running the Center Store Department.
Complete assigned tasks on schedule. Ensure accurate pricing, rotation of product and minimizing inventory losses. Establish, implement and review ordering, receiving and stocking procedures to maximize sales growth, remain within budget, and grow to meet changing market demands. Ensure clear, attractive, well maintained retail product displays. Assist with merchandizing and promoting products, through accurate shelf tags, signs, cleanliness and product placement. Ensure guidelines for product selection are followed as outlines in the current Merchandizing Policy. Ensure department is fully stocked at all times, including end caps and with special attention to presentation in all display areas and establish this as a priority for staff. Ensure that credits for mispicks and damaged goods are acted upon and accounted for. Ensure that all unsellable products are recorded and disposed of in accordance with set procedures. Attended storewide and department meetings and Management Team meetings as assigned. Maintain department cleanliness in all retail and back stock areas. Personnel
  • Direct, supervise and coach Center Store Department staff members.
Assist Manager in the interviewing and hiring of qualified applicants. Assist Manager with Center Store Department scheduling, time clock hours approval and corrective action. Ensure thorough training and cross-training for stocking, buying, receiving and customer service including development and updating of written materials. Provide extensive hands-on training to all department staff. Establish and maintain systems and procedures to meet the goals of the Center Store Department. Participate in evaluations of department staff members. Participate in planning and facilitation of department meetings. Department Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns during shift, following established procedures. Develop and continually refine space-effective plan for back stock storage. Maintain storage and display areas in clean, orderly and efficient condition. Comply with health department regulations. Schedule regular and thorough cleanings of all work and display areas. Security
  • Maintain security of store during shift, ensure that the store is opened and closed following security procedures. See that spills are attended to promptly and hazardous conditions are corrected. Deal with shoplifters, disorderly customers, and medical emergencies in accordance with established procedures. Miscellaneous

Responsibilities to
Safety :
Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor. Follow all company and safety policies and procedures. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others. Assist in overseeing Department Safety Meeting trainings for Center Store staff and turn in sign-off sheets on time to HR Department for tracking.

Experience:
High school diploma or GED certificate preferred. In addition, must have: Excellent customer service skills Excellent communication skills, good listener, follows and gives clear instructions Well organized and pays attention to detail Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments Knowledge of trends in natural foods, specifically products to be ordered Willingness to work in a cold and damp environment.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.
Computer Skills:
An individual should have knowledge of: The Internet Inventory software Order processing systems Spreadsheet software Word Processing software
