The City of San Bernardino is seeking a dependable and experienced Lead Custodian to support the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of City facilities. Under general supervision, the Lead Custodian leads and participates in the work of assigned custodial crews responsible for cleaning and maintaining City buildings and facilities. This position performs advanced custodial tasks, assists with training staff, and helps ensure that facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and professional condition. This position is assigned to the Police Department. Qualified candidates must successfully complete a police background investigation as part of the pre-employment examinations.The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and leadership abilities while working alongside custodial staff to ensure that City buildings and facilities are maintained to high standards. A typical day for a Lead Custodian begins by reviewing the cleaning schedule and coordinating assignments for the custodial crew. As a working leader, the Lead Custodian ensures priority areas such as offices, restrooms, and public spaces are cleaned and ready for daily operations. Throughout the shift, the Lead Custodian works alongside the team performing custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and floor care, while monitoring work quality and providing guidance to staff. The role also involves training employees on proper cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety practices. In addition to daily cleaning responsibilities, the Lead Custodian helps maintain timesheets, monitors supplies and equipment, and assists with preparing facilities for meetings or special events. Methods, tools and equipment used in custodial work. Practices of employee lead supervision, including assignment scheduling, training, work evaluation, safe work methods and safety practices pertaining to the work. Operation and maintenance or a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment used in custodial work. Proper mixing and dilution of cleansers, disinfectants, and stripping agents. Basic math. City policies, procedures, and standards.Skill in:
Planning, estimating, coordinating, and scheduling the work of a custodial staff. Preparing and maintaining a variety of basic written records and reports. Operating and maintaining tools and equipment used in the field. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work. Identifying, designing, and implementing effective courses of action. Calculating basic math problems. Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions. Providing customer service.
