Job Description

This is a full-time position offering competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package. The Produce Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department, ensuring a high level of product quality, customer service, and merchandising. This role involves managing inventory, training staff, and achieving sales and profitability goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Management:
Supervise and lead produce department staff, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations as requested. Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations. Maintain high standards of product quality and freshness. Oversee the proper storage, handling, and rotation of produce items to minimize waste. Provide exceptional customer service by addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints, and offering product recommendations. Ensure that the produce department is clean, organized, and visually appealing. Monitor customer preferences and trends to adjust inventory and displays accordingly. Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without overstocking or understocking. Order produce from suppliers and vendors. Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to maintain accurate records. Develop and implement merchandising strategies to maximize sales and profitability. Plan and execute seasonal and promotional displays to attract customers. Monitor sales performance and adjust strategies as needed to meet sales targets. Food Safety Management Certification. Minimum 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in business or retail management is a plus. 3 plus years of experience in a supervisory role within a grocery store or produce department. Strong knowledge of produce items, including handling, storage, and seasonal availability. Excellent leadership and team-building skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in a grocery store environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and handling of produce items. The role requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
