Job Description

Store Experience Manager (Retail Manager) Job Summary We're looking for a dynamic, hands-on leader to bring the magic of play to life in our Southlands/Aurora store. As our Store Experience Manager (a.k.a. our Captain of Play), you will be responsible for running the day-to-day of the store, while creating an engaging, interactive environment. You'll lead a team that demos products, sparks curiosity, and creates memorable, hands-on experiences for every customer who walks through the door. From Magna-Tiles building to game demos to sensory play moments, you'll make sure the store feels alive, engaging, and fun. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a proactive leader passionate about retail management and customer engagement. Your leadership will drive sales growth, optimize store performance, and cultivate a welcoming atmosphere that encourages customer loyalty and team development. Responsibilities Lead an interactive, play-focused customer experience
  • this is not a passive retail environment Coach and develop a team that confidently demos products, teaches games, and connects with customers Oversee daily store operations, including merchandising, stock replenishment, opening/closing procedures, and cash handling Maximize sales potential by monitoring trends and seeking opportunities to connect with our community through events, partnerships, and more Partner with company leadership on scheduling/hiring, training, and marketing initiatives to ensure strong floor coverage Stay calm, steady, and solution-focused during busy rushes, events, and holiday traffic Take initiative by jumping in to improve processes, displays, and team performance without waiting to be asked Maintain compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements related to retail operations May require up to one day per week in our warehouse near I-25 and Alameda What You'll Bring A self-starter mindset•you take initiative and own your role A natural ability to engage both kids and adults, making play accessible for everyone The ability to stay calm and positive in high-energy, fast-paced environments A love of play, creativity, and connecting with others You'll Thrive Here If You Get excited about games, building, creativity, and hands-on learning Can shift from helping a child build to coaching a team member without missing a beat Believe retail should feel like an experience Qualifications Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate teams and engage customers effectively Experience with POS systems, cash handling, cashiering, and store merchandising Ability to handle multiple priorities with excellent time management skills in a fast-paced setting Retail leadership experience a plus, especially in toy, specialty, or experience-driven environments Beyond the Blackboard is built on connection, curiosity, and play.
