The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the store, delivering exceptional customer service, leading employees, maintaining inventory, and ensuring the store operates efficiently. This position requires strong leadership skills, a positive attitude, and a passion for fishing and the outdoor industry. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development Assist the Store Manager with the day-to-day operations of the store. Lead by example by providing outstanding customer service. Supervise, coach, and motivate team members to achieve company goals. Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees. Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback. Help create employee work schedules and manage shift coverage. Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. Address customer and employee concerns professionally and promptly. Customer Service Ensure every customer receives friendly, knowledgeable, and personalized service. Assist customers with selecting rods, reels, tackle, bait, apparel, marine accessories, and other fishing equipment. Resolve customer concerns and complaints in a professional manner. Build long-term customer relationships by providing expert product recommendations and fishing advice. Store Operations Open and close the store following company procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked sales floor. Ensure merchandise is properly displayed and priced. Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs. Receive, inspect, and stock incoming merchandise. Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts. Maintain accurate inventory records and minimize inventory shrink. Help coordinate store promotions and seasonal merchandise displays. Sales & Performance Support the achievement of store sales goals and profitability. Monitor daily sales performance and identify opportunities to improve results. Encourage upselling and cross-selling while maintaining excellent customer service. Ensure employees are knowledgeable about current promotions and new products. Cash Handling Oversee accurate cash handling and register operations. Perform register audits and assist with daily deposits. Ensure company cash handling procedures are followed. Safety & Loss Prevention Enforce company policies and procedures. Maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers. Help reduce theft and inventory loss through awareness and accountability. Ensure equipment and store facilities are maintained properly. Additional Responsibilities Spool fishing reels using the store's line-spooling equipment. Assist with special orders and customer transfers. Support e-commerce order fulfillment when needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Owner. Qualifications Previous retail management or supervisory experience required. Fishing knowledge strongly preferred. Experience with saltwater fishing and fishing equipment is highly desirable. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Experience with inventory management and merchandising. Proficient with POS systems and basic computer applications. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment. Dependable, professional, and self-motivated. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, climb ladders, and stock merchandise. Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment. Schedule Full-time position. Weekend availability is required. Availability to work holidays and occasional evenings as needed. Flexible schedule based on business needs. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of saltwater fishing, boating, and marine electronics. Experience with retail inventory management systems. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Experience in the fishing, marine, or outdoor retail industry.
