Job Description

RETAIL MANAGER
- Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County
POSITION SUMMARY
: The Retail Manager provides strategic leadership, both external and internal, for the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County's (HSVB) Thrift Shops. The position partners closely with the Leadership Team to build fundraising for HSVB administration and programs. Some responsibilities are fiscal controls, manages staff and volunteers, and coordinates marketing, merchandising, sales, and the donation of merchandise. This position promotes a safe and productive work environment for all team members, customers, and volunteers. This position is a member of the leadership team and reports directly to the
CEO. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Store Management and Merchandising Develop and implement written procedures for all thrift shop operations, including opening and closing, accepting, sorting and pricing donations, handling of cash, and other relevant procedures as needed. Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual revenue projections and meet financial goals. Positively contribute to the growth and development of the store team members through training, communication, follow-up, planning, organization, recognition, and support. Uphold and promote a safe and productive work environment by following and enforcing policies and procedures. Oversee the processes relating to donated items including sorting, tagging, displaying and disposing of donated items. Set goals for the store team, manage execution, track progress, and measure results regularly using standard metrics including but not limited to; sales volume, average dollar sale, average unit sale, traffic count and conversion rates. Manage supply inventory and complete purchase orders as necessary. Maintain and increase knowledge of resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends, participate in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training. Supervise cash handling procedures. Staff Management Coordinate with Human Resources regarding the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development of staff. Assess the store needs for staff and volunteers. Develop schedules for paid staff and work with the volunteer coordinator to ensure the development of a daily schedule of volunteer coverage to maintain adequate personnel at the shops to accomplish tasks and respond to customers. Maintain current knowledge of agency policies and procedures as they relate to personnel, monitor staff for adherence to policies and procedures, take corrective action as necessary to ensure staff is in compliance. Conduct regularly scheduled communication with staff to provide direction, guidance, and oversight to personnel, and consult with staff on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas. Provide timely direction and written and verbal feedback to staff. Ensure staff and volunteers are fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their job as defined by their job description. 3. Marketing and Promotion Analyze sales and current inventory in order to provide projections and recommendations of promotions to retain customers and increase sales. Oversee the display of merchandise inside the store to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store and drive sales. Collaborate with marketing for promotion materials, advertising, signage, etc. 4. Customer Service Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards and ensure staff and volunteers follow the same standards. Promote excellence in the customer service experience for all visitors to the thrift shop through staff training, surveys, and focus groups. 5. Perform other duties as required and assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
: Bachelor's degree or equivalent retail/resale experience. 3+ years of retail management experience and 2+ years of supervision of staff required. Experience overseeing volunteers a plus. Knowledgeable of budget management, bookkeeping, and projections. Strong verbal, written, and organization skills.

Ability to work closely with others to ensure positive, constructive environment within the stores, and throughout the organization. Effective in interacting with people from different backgrounds. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growth orientated environment, while maintaining a positive, solution-driven approach. Flexibility with work schedule, specifically in support of occasional events. Commitment to on-going learning and growth.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, as well as move and traverse within the shelter facility for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to communicate, converse with, convey information to, express oneself, and exchange information with shelter staff and the general public. The employee must regularly move, transport, and position items weighing up to 10 pounds, frequently moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee is continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, potentially harmful cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and working outdoors for extended periods of time during cold and extremely hot weather.
