This position is for a hands on mechanic with essential management responsibilities. The ideal candidate is someone who turns wrenches daily , takes pride in well-maintained equipment, and also has the organizational skills to manage inventory, parts purchasing, preventative maintenance schedules, and DOT compliance. This is not a desk-only management role —it requires physical work in the shop and yard alongside leadership and accountability. - Ideal Candidate Characteristics Highly Organized Detail Oriented Mechanically Skilled & Hands-On Process Oriented Methodical and Timely Safety & Compliance Focused Takes Ownership and Pride in Equipment Condition Primary Duties & Responsibilities Mechanical & Hands-On Responsibilities Perform daily mechanical repairs and maintenance on: Lawn mowers (walk-behind, stand-on, zero-turn) Trucks and trailers Skid steers, compact equipment, and specialty landscape equipment Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine issues efficiently Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) according to company schedules Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly to minimize crew downtime Conduct pre-season, mid-season, and end-of-season equipment inspections Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard Shop Management & Operational Responsibilities Manage and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment Track repairs, PMs, and downtime using company systems and logs Manage parts inventory , including: Stock levels Reordering Vendor coordination Submit and manage purchase requests for parts, tools, and equipment Coordinate with Operations and Production Managers on equipment readiness Assign and prioritize repairs based on operational needs Train and support crew leaders and operators on proper equipment use and care Experience & Qualifications 2+ years of hands-on mechanical experience (landscape, diesel, automotive, or equipment repair) Experience working on lawn & landscape equipment strongly preferred Working knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and trailers Familiarity with DOT compliance requirements preferred Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, seasonal environment Physically capable of lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varying conditions Valid driver's license required (CDL a plus, but not required) About MW Lawn & Landscape MW Lawn & Landscape has proudly served residential and commercial properties throughout Johnson County and the Kansas City metro for 25 years .
