ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
LOCATION
Salisbury, MDSCHEDULE:
Full-Time (40 hours/week)
RATE:
$26.00/hoursThis position is responsible for:

Under the general supervision of the Corps Officer, the Thrift Store Manager I plan, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day Thrift Store operations at a store location measuring 3500 - 4999 square foot, while generating annual sales income between $499,999- $800,000 annual sales annually. The incumbent manages staff ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures as well as budget constraints; evaluates and organizes the layout and display of merchandise to generate maximum financial return; monitors the processing of moving merchandise from the warehouse to the sales floor to ensure that items reach store floors in a timely manner; establish and implement a key performance indicator plan resulting in measurable results; trains staff on key indicator system and ensures staff meet key performance indicators on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. He/she generates daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports; analyzes patterns and in collaboration with the Corps Officer and develops marketing strategies to increase visibility/awareness of store promotions to increase market share.
Key Responsibilities:
SUPERVISION
(40%)
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of subordinate personnel; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides salary and hiring/firing recommendations.
  • Implements key performance indicators for store associates. Trains store associates on key performance indicators.
  • Supervises store associates to ensure key performance indicators are met, and when necessary, conducts additional training, corrective action, and progressive discipline.
  • Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings.
BUSINESS OPERATIONS
(40%)
  • Supervises, monitors and evaluates the layout and display of store merchandise; ensures stock is routinely rotated and prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; ensures the store is maintained in a neat, inviting, and orderly manner.
  • Opens the store and ensures that the store is clean and well stocked prior to opening with all merchandise properly tagged and displayed; ensures that customer needs are met and that courtesies are extended to both customers and donors.
  • Supervises and monitors store clerk activities to ensure the accountability of cash register monies; opens and closes store in accordance with store policies; supervises the preparation of sales records, sales reports and bank deposits.
  • Ensures the security of the building at the close of the day; ensures the accountability and security of store receipts as outlined in the standard Salvation Army operating procedure.
  • Supervises and monitors the receiving, sorting, pricing, and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the scheduling and routing of donation pick-ups; ensures the accountability of all donated items; ensures donations are collected in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the operation and maintenance of all Thrift Store vehicles and equipment; ensures that routine maintenance and repairs are conducted in a timely and economical manner to ensure safety and long life.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the store and warehouse operations; approves purchases for all store/office supplies; obtains and submits bids for all large purchases.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of Thrift Store sales reports, records, logs, etc.; ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the same.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records for all assigned staff; monitors all timecards for accuracy and completeness.
MARKETING
(20%)
  • Research and implement marketing plans which improve public awareness of store activities, promotions, campaigns, sales and incentives.
  • Develops and implements creative sales initiatives to increase store sales and customer visits.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises and assigns work of community service workers; serves as liaison to parole officers and completes court order paperwork; prepares and maintains accurate records for all volunteers and community workers.
  • Recruits and monitors volunteers to work in the Thrift Store and warehouse.
  • Coordinates the sale of rags in a timely manner.
  • Assists in performing special or seasonal projects as directed.
  • Performs other related work as required.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field and one (1) year of retail experience with at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; OR
  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid State Driver's License required.
